vocation to be missionary and to help the Missions.
As Catholics around the world, here at home and in the Missions, gather at the Eucharistic table, let us pray for the Church’s worldwide mission and
offer financial help through the Propa-gation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin Ameri-
ca and the Pacific Islands.
Thank you for your generosity.

Deacon Frank Bono is inviting you to the Scrip-
ture Reflection Group’s discussion of Sun-day Scripture Readings on every Monday morning immediately following the 9:00
AM Mass. Come join us.
In our continued mission toward unity as the Parishes of the Five Towns, Three Parishes, ONE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, we will
now share one weekly bulletin. This is anoth-er step taken to meet Bishop Murphy’s man-date to develop a unified Catholic Identity in
the Five Towns. An identity shared by all three parishes, and the common leadership of
priests, deacons, and staffs now serving in those parishes. If you would like to have something printed in the bulletin,
please email your announcement to [email protected].
Please have your message to sent by Tuesday at Noon for the following Sunday.
May God continue to bless us as we continue to bring the Love of Christ to our beloved Five Towns.

CYO BASKETBALL UPDATE CYO Registration Forms for the
2015/2016 school year can be picked up at the Rectory during office hours only.
What happens if I use my OFFERING ENVELOPE in another Parish than my own? Will my offering go to the Parish where I went to Mass or will it go to my home parish? As an example, if you are a member of Saint Joa-chim's Parish and attend Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel you can put your envelope from Saint Joa-chim's in the collection basket at Good Counsel. We will make sure the offering goes to the Parish indicated on the envelope. If you don't use the official collection envelope, but want your offering to go to a particular Parish, please use a regular white envelope and write the name of the Parish on the Front. FAITH DIRECT is a wonderful program that you can register for. FAITH DIRECT allows you to use your credit or bank account to make your weekly offering. This is already available in Saint Joseph's and Good Counsel. It will be available in Saint Joa-chim's in the next few weeks. This is a very secure way to make sure your offering goes to the parish of your choice. Also, it helps with the free airline miles if you use your credit card as well. All cash, not in an envelope indicating parish desig-nation, will stay in the parish it was collected in. We hope this will clear up any confusion about all offerings made to the parishes. All the Parishes de-pend on your continued financial support, in order to continue the work of Christ here in the Five Towns.
O God of all the Nations, the One God who is and was and always will be, who in your providence
willed that your Church be united to the suffering of your Son, look with mercy on your servants in
Iraq who are persecuted for their faith in you. Grant them perseverance and courage to be wor-thy imitators of Christ. Bring your wisdom upon
leaders of nations to work for peace among all peoples. May your Spirit open conversion for
those who contradict your will that we live in har-mony. And in all things may we be united in truth and freedom to seek your will in our lives. We ask
this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lady, Queen of Peace, Pray for us.

Eucharistic Adoration Program Please Help Us by Joining Us!
Have you ever considered volunteering as
part of the Eucharistic Adoration program?
Located at St. Joseph’s, the program allows
for us all to spend some time in the presence of Jesus
Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. No special prayers or
readings required. It’s just your opportunity to sit, read and
pray in silence. A wonderful opportunity to find moments
of peace with God in the midst of our busy life.. The
program runs each week (Wednesday 9am - Thursday
9am), and is located in the Adoration Chapel at St Joseph’s
– 1346 Broadway in Hewlett . We need regular volunteers
who can offer an hour each week to remain with the
Blessed Sacrament. Maybe consider taking an hour as a
family, so that if one person can’t make it,
others will be available to cover.
While we’re need volunteers for all the hours, we
especially need volunteers for the following:
Wednesday 12pm, 3pm, 10pm, 11pm
Thursday 4am
Interested? Like more information?
Please contact Deacon Dan Otton at 516-791-9322.

How did the church dealt with “daily sins” in the first five centuries? As devout and observant as they were, our early fathers and mothers in faith could not have been all that different from us. Maybe they looked the other way when the grocer threw an extra fig in the shopping basket, or had a wandering eye for the widow next door, or had a taste for too much ale, or didn’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. First of all, there was the Eucharist. The words are familiar: “This is the cup of my blood, poured out for the for-giveness of sin.” Especially by participating in Communion from the cup, forgiveness was achieved. Eucharist was, and remains, the sacra-ment of reconciliation par excellence, the sign and source of unity with Christ. There were other helps along the way: “fraternal” correc-tion, or the course corrections we offer one another in love, prayer, fasting, works of mercy. St. Augustine listed endur-ance of suffering, forgiveness of insults, and added the pray-ing of the Lord’s Prayer in the liturgy. He felt that the public praying of the Our Father on Sunday and its daily use in pri-vate prayer was an essential remedy and the reason why eve-ryone was not a candidate for canonical penance. Inherited from Augustine’s practice, the Lord’s Prayer in our Com-munion Rite still has the same purpose, preparing us for re-ceiving and becoming the Body of Christ. —Rev.
—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Vigésimo Octavo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
DISCIPLESHIP AND WEALTH Sometimes we get the idea that having material wealth is a bad thing. We may convince ourselves that it is the poor who are favored. In today’s readings, we dis-cover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than ma-terial wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and let-ting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and He-brews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
