Think about it…… The wisdom of…….Air Supply?

Even though I am a child of the 70’s, I’m an 80’s music guy.  Fur‐ther, (and my wife Mary may kill me for disclosing this), I credit Air Supply for giving me the impetus to propose to my bride through their ballad “Makin love ou a nuthin at all”.  But that is a story for another  me.  February is not only when we celebrate Valen ne’s Day, but for my wife and me, it also holds our wed‐ding anniversary; suffice to say “love ou a nuthin” gets a bit of play in our house.  This year however, I paid a li le closer a en‐on to the lyrics and it lead me to this the idea for this column.

 “I don’t know how to leave you and I’ll never let you fall.”

 Isn’t this like the promise Jesus made to us? For me, it was hard to trust God on the topic of money (and let go of the fear of run‐ning out of it).  I suspect that I’m pre y typical in this way.   And while God does not promise us “the road to riches…..and the ways to fame”,   I do believe God will not allow us to be hurt by honoring, serving and giving to Him.

So to close with a paraphrase: (apologies to Air Supply) “Cause everything I have,

Well it’s nothing  l I give it to Him.”

God Bless…….See you next month.

8TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Reflecting on the Gospel: In all we do, we must keep God and right relationship before us as our guiding perspective. The issue of the gospel is not our time and concerns; the issue is who or what master controls our decisions and their outcomes. Beginning with the conviction that God cares and provides for us, our only overriding worry ought to be how strongly we seek God and divine righteousness. Jesus tells us that we cannot serve two masters. Clearly, he is pitting exclusive concern (worry) with ourselves, our wants, our needs against single-mindedly seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness. We are not to neglect our legitimate needs, but to keep them in proper perspective. We must not worry but look beyond today and even tomorrow. In everything we do, we must serve only one Master, the God who lavishly provides and cares for us—today, tomorrow, and even unto fullness of Life forever.

“A ,A .T G ;

.”HEB 4:12

Responsorial Psalm 62: The notion of being at rest connotes a posture of comfort. At the same time it reflects a sense of security, of not having to fear anything or anyone. To be at rest is to be at peace with the world. This is the situation the psalmist describes.

Excerpt from Fr. Joe Breighner’s “More Reflections Along A Country Road”

Good Example The most effective way we share our scriptures, our understanding of the sacraments, our prayer life and our image of God, is by how we live. As someone has profoundly put it, “People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do.” So our effort is to live as Jesus asked us to live when He gave the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, “I was hungry and you fed me; thirsty and you gave me something to drink; naked and you clothed me; in prison and you visited me; a stranger and you took me in” Put simply, the best way to show our belief in God is through the sermon of our lives.

When we treat the least person the way we treat God, then we become believable and God becomes visible.
