Novena to St. Benedict
"O Glorious St. Benedict, sublime model of all virtues, pure vessel of God's grace! Behold me, humbly kneeling at thy feet. I implore thy loving heart to pray for me before the throne of God. To thee I have recourse in all the dangers which daily surround me. Shield me against my enemies, inspire me to imitate thee in all things. May thy blessings be with me always, so that I may shun whatever God forbids and avoid the occasions of sin." "Graciously obtain for me from God those favors and graces of which I stand so much in need, in the trials, miseries and afflictions of life. Thy heart was always so full of love, compassion, and mercy towards those who were afflicted or troubled in any way. Thou didst never dismiss without consolation and assistance anyone who had recourse to thee. I therefore invoke thy powerful intercession in the confident hope that thou will hear my prayers and obtain for me the special grace and favor I so earnestly implore (mention it), if it be for the greater glory of God and the welfare of my soul."
"Help me, O great St. Benedict, to live and die as a faithful child of God, to be ever submissive to His holy will, and to attain the eternal happiness of heaven. Amen."

"O God, You are the preserver of men, and the keeper of
our lives. We commit ourselves to Your perfect care on the
journey that awaits us. We pray for a safe and
Auspicious journey. Give Your angels charge over us to
keep us in all our ways. Let no evil befall us, nor any harm
come to our dwelling that we leave behind. Although we
are uncertain of what the days may bring, may we be
prepared for any event or delay, and greet such with
patience and understanding. Bless us O Lord, that
we may complete our journey safely and successfully
under Your ever watchful care."
AMEN...

Vacation Prayer
Spirituality is the first objective of the Society.
Our primary purpose is not to bring help to the poor,
At least when defined as material or financial assistance.
Our primary purpose is to bring the love and peace
of Christ to those who are suffering.
In doing so, we bring the gift of ourselves and our time.
Nonetheless, as St. James so aptly says, it is difficult to minister
to someone’s soul when that person’s body is hungry or naked.
Missionaries of all faiths have historically found that they
had to minister to the physical needs of those in their care
before they could effectively preach the Gospel:
“What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith,
but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister
is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them,
‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,”’ without giving them
The things needed for the body, what does it profit?
So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.”
Although our objective is to bring love and peace, when we
see our brother or sister suffering, we naturally want to help.
So we collect food and raise funds in order to help and
demonstrate the truth of the central message of Christianity - -
love one another.
This is a simple act of living out our faith. We share in
some small way what we have, with those who have less.
In doing so, we cause the poor to see our good works and
give glory and praise to God. Saint Matthew expressed it:
“You are the light of the world.
Men do not light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket.
They set it on a stand where it gives light to all…
In the same way, your light must shine before all men
So that they may see your good works
And give praise and glory to your heavenly Father.”
The primary
role of
the Vincentia
is not to pay
the bills,
furnish groceries
or clothe
someone.
The role of the
Vincentian
is to provide
loving and
compassionate
interest in
individuals.
If that interest
calls for food,
clothing
or other
assistance,
so be it.
However,
it is in loving
where the
contact with
Christ
emerges.
That contact
with Christ
is what
separates the
Society of St.
Vincent de
Paul from
just another
social agency.
