The Epiphany of the Lord - January 3, 2021

  • recognized Christ as the Saviour of the world. They are models of faith for us. Let us ask the Lord to increase our faith so that we may recognize his presence in this Eucharist, and welcome him with joy into our hearts.

T HE GREAT THING about the Magi was their faith. Even though they were outsiders (Gentiles), they THE STAR OF HOPEGordon Wilson's daughter was killed by a bomb in Enniskillen on Remembrance Day 1987. Instead of calling for revenge, he forgave her killers and began a campaign for peace and reconciliation. He said:"I am a very ordinary sort of man. I have few personal ambitions and no political aspirations. I just want to live and let live. Life has been kind to me in the main, and I have tried to live by the Good Book. I do not profess to be a good man, but I aim to be. I would like to leave the world a better place than I found it, but I have no exaggerated ideas of my ability to do so. I have hitched my wagon to a star, a star of hope, the star of Bethlehem.

WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT?Why Celebrate Epiphany?Epiphany or Manifestation of the Lord reminds us that God in Christ did something remarkable: He extended His grace to those who were originally outside the covenant. As Paul reminds the Ephesians, we were aliens and strangers, but God has made us part of the new Israel. Celebrating Epiphany should help us to understand the grace of God, who has seen fit to include those of us who for centuries seemed to be excluded from the plan for salvation among the chosen people. Epiphany also focuses our attention on the magi’s response to Christ’s revelation. They worshipped Him and presented Him with rich gifts – Gold, representing his kingship; Frankincense, a symbol of his priestly role; and Myrrh, a prefiguring of his death and embalming. Christian tradition has set the name of the Magi, or three kings, as Gaspar, Melchor, and Balthazar. On Epiphany we are reminded that we must worship Christ by presenting ourselves as gifts to him. As stewards of God’s gifts, we return to God what is rightfully His.

Lord Jesus, you are mighty God and Prince of Peace. Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus, you are Son of God and Son of Mary.Christ, have mercy.Lord Jesus, you are Word made flesh and splendor of the Father.Lord, have mercy.

THE STAR OF BETHLEHEMThe Star of Bethlehem, also called the Christmas Star, appears in the Nativity story in the Gospel of Matthew. "Wise men from the East" are inspired to follow the star, traveling to Jerusalem, where they meet King Herod of Judea, asking him “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

WHAT PARISHIONERS ARE SAYINGA big Thank You to Father Lester and his elves. You made my advent season special. Thank you and God Bless all of you. Jan WeldonSo many thanks for taking the time to bring all those wonderful gifts. May the Lord bless you. Wishing you a very blessed Christmas. Inga & Joe Bonchonsky

Huge hugs to the special Christmas Angels that made Advent Sundays so very special. What a wonderful treat it was to be visited by these special people bearing gifts each Sunday of the Advent season. My wife and I want to thank each and every one of you. We really enjoyed the final visit with all the folks singing and honking and father carrying the baby Jesus to give us a blessing. How lucky we are to be members of the St. Anthony Family. Happy New Year to all. John and Merilee FlynnGreetings from Ohio. To our St. Anthony Family - May you have a holy and blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with hope and joy! Frank and Judy Goulart

MAKING CHANGES FOR THE NEW YEARWhen we say Happy New Year to someone, we are inviting the New Year to be a better year than what we are coming out of. Here's something to think about. If nothing changes, nothing will happen different. If you do not have a plan for the New Year, the New Year will become the Old Year and you will be at the same spot next year. A believer looking to the future is going to be different than a non-believer. The believer should be looking at it through the eyes of faith that God knows the plans that He has for us and His plan is to give us a future and a hope based upon God's promises that He will never forsake us and will walk with us. A believer looks to the New Year with the truth that he does not have to do it alone, that God Himself will dwell within you and help you. A non believer is forced to look at the New Year through the eyes of accomplishment and luck. Which one are you? And what are you putting your faith in? We have to do a bit of a checklist to see through which eyes we are approaching the New Year."For I know the plans I have for you declared the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 by Anthony Zibolski

YOUR PRAYERS ARE REQUESTED FOR THESE PARISHIONERS & FRIENDS

SUNDAY DRIVE IN CELEBRATION OF MASSDuring this time that we are not allowed to have indoor Mass we invite you to join us in the drive in celebration of the Mass. Park near the church and tune in to FM 97.5. During Communion the Eucharistic Minister will come to your car. Please receive the Body of Christ reverently on your palm. For your love offering, ministers will bring the basket to your car after the Mass. Thank you for your cooperation and we continue to pray that soon we will be able to celebrate Mass in the church.

ALMS ATONE FOR SINSThe Book of Sirach (aka Ecclesiaticus) is one of the "Wisdom" books. It contains practical suggestions for a life based on faith in God. This section praises humility. This virtue is often misunderstood. A truly humble person is one who recognizes his or her limitations. Such a one is willing to accept help from others. Part of this is a willingness to help others in need. Alms or contributions to the poor correct the imbalance in our relationship with God.
