Fourth Sunday of EasterApril 17, 2016

World Day of Prayer will be observed on Sunday, April 17th, also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” The purpose of this day is to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruction to, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord’s call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. You can find many resources to promote a culture of vocations on the USCCB Vocations webpage (www.usccb.org/vocations)..

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

For young men and women; That God may give them the gift of understanding to discern their service in the Church, the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life; And for the gift of courage to follow His call. We pray to the Lord. . . .

For young people; That they may know the personal love of the Lord for them, and respond with open and generous hearts. We pray to the Lord. . . .

Dear Parishioners:

I will be participating in an annual review of my ministry from the Archdiocese: 360 Catholic Leadership review. By diocesan policy all active priests must participate in this approximately every 5 years.

Part of the review is a Parish-wide survey in which all parishioners are invited to participate. It is a short survey on only 24 questions; it will take just a few minutes to complete.

The survey can also be easily accessed by going to the Archdiocese’s web page (Archchicago.org) and clicking on “Departments” on the upper left of the page, then scrolling to “Ministerial Evaluation” to access our web page. There, in the middle of the page, find “360 Catholic Leadership review for priests” and click on your appropriate language. Finally, follow the instructions for anonymous participation.

The web link for the surveys is also attached below. Thanks you

The Challenge of the Month - April As part of One Book One Parish, we have been challenging parishioners to read one chapter every month of the book by Joe Paprocki entitled “7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness.” We follow up every month with a challenge for you to do, (sometimes with your family).

Do you still need a copy of the book? Pick one up in the rectory! They are free!

What happened to this month? Well... We’re taking a break!

This month... the challenge isn’t to read a chapter. It is to join us at the Parish Mission, April 10, 11, and 12 at 6:30 PM.

We’ll return with “Challenge of the Month” in May. If you haven’t caught up with the challenges for January, February or March, you can find out about them at www.saintandrewchicago.com.

Are You Called to Help Transform Saint Andrew? When: Tuesday, April 26, 2016, 7:00 PM Where: Saint Andrew ChapelWhat: Help implement the Strategic Action Plan

Over the past year, the Archdiocese of Chicago helped a group of parishioners from Saint Andrew Parish develop an action plan for parish transformation. The action plan is set and there are many pieces of the plan are already being done, but there is still much to do.

Please come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 7:00 PM. We have need of individuals interested in transforming our: prayer and worship, adult catechesis, communications, stewardship planning, retreat programing, organized service opportunities, community building, and more. Are you looking to get involved, this is the starting point. Come and get introduced to the way you can transform Saint Andrew!

What’s after Confirmation for our Kids? When: Thursday, April 29, 7:00 PMWhere: Saint Andrew Social HallWhat: A Planning Meeting for High School Youth Ministry

A constant concern for parents at Saint Andrew Parish is “What happens for our kids after Confirmation?” This is an important question, especially with recent research that suggests what teens do with their faith life in high school determines more about their faith practices as an adult than any other indicator. We can have a positive impact on their lives, but it takes planning. Come learn, discuss, give input, and change the opportunities teens will have at Saint Andrew Parish.

Connecting worlds

“Why would a boy in Uganda want one of our gym t-shirts?”

It’s hard for children and adults to imagine how simple gifts packed in Chicago can arrive in the hands of grateful students half way around the world. Not to mention, how these students will feel about something we take for granted, like a t-shirt. Sponsor, Heather Collins understands the power of the connection:

“That’s our Moses! This is such a gift. It means so much to see our concrete results of such an abstract idea for our kiddos.. When we packed this package to go around the world, it seemed impossible to them. My girls were like, “Why would a boy in Uganda want one of our gym shirts?” I tried to explain that it is a symbol that our school supports him and that we are on the same team. But this photo of him in his Saint Andrew tee is just awesome.”

Recently, we received several photos of students proudly displaying their gifts and big smiles. When we shared the photos with our sponsors the responses sounded a chorus of:

“You made our day!” “Awesome!” “Definitely, Hellen, she’s wearing the cross necklace I sent her last year. Love to see this!!” “This just makes me smile.”

We will be traveling to Uganda to visit our students this June and exchanging care packages and letters from the U.S. and our program’s students. One Heart Uganda’s mission is to change lives through education and create a special bond between people in the U.S. and students in Uganda. We look forward to strengthening that connection.

JOIN the UGANDA IMMERSION TRIP

OCTOBER 1-11, 2016

Witness the amazing work that has been accomplished through St. Andrew Parish, Chicago!

Experience what life is like for our brothers and sisters in Africa! Answer Pope Francis’ call to help those in poverty!

Through our Immersion Trips, parishioners & volunteers, including Fr. Sergio, have personally visited Fr. Matthias to assist in improving the quality of life for our Ugandan brothers and sisters in many ways. Having been there myself, I feel comfortable saying that the experience has impacted every single one in so many positive ways. Every person that made the commitment to open their eyes to life in Uganda, gained a valuable perspective on life and an appreciation for a community that requires only the basic needs to be happy. Participants have ranged from ages 26 to 67, single, married, parents, friends, working, retired and parents with children. Anyone can contribute!

There will be a meeting for anyone interested or thinking they might be interested to discuss specific details. Meeting:

Wednesday, April 27
