Christian Initiation of Adults (Catechumenate) For those inquiring about Initiation and Communion with the Catholic Church, please contact the Parish Office, 714-893-2766.

Christian Initiation of Infants (Baptisms) Infant baptisms are celebrated monthly following catechesis for pa ren t s and godparen t s o f candidates. Please contact the Parish Office at least one month in advance of enrollment.

Celebration of Christian Marriage Registered parishioners should contact the Parish Office for an appointment with one of the priests at least six months prior to marriage and also attend one Marriage Orientation class.

Anointing of the Sick In the event of a serious illness or a medical emergency, the Parish Office should be contacted immediately so that the sacrament of the sick may be conferred by a priest.

Celebration of Christian Funerals At the death of a loved one, kindly notify the Parish Office at your earliest convenience so that the dates and times for the Funeral Liturgy may be arranged.

Eucharistic Adoration On the 22nd of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament praying for an increase in vocations. If the 22nd of the month falls on Saturday or Sunday, Adoration will be held on the following Monday. Adoration is also every Saturday, 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

MAKING DISCIPLES The purpose of the Church is to offer people salvation in Jesus Christ, also, to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them all I have commended you to.” Mt 16:1619. To be disciples of Jesus we first need to be knowledgeable in our Catholic faith and then give that knowledge away to others in many ways. STAY TUNED!

ST. POLYCARP OF SMYRNA

As we prepare to celebrate the feast of our parish patron, St. Polycarp, let's take time to review what we know about this Father of the Church.

The executioners would have nailed him to the stake, but he convinced

them that it wasn’t necessary. So they simply tied his hands behind his back. At the end of his prayer, the executioners set the fire, but the large flames formed into an arch, gently encircling but not burning his body. Exasperated, officials ordered a spearman to pierce him. Such a quantity of blood flowed from his left side that it put out the fire. The Christians wanted St. Polycarp’s body but the centurion burnt it to ashes. The bones were kept as relics.

RITE OF ELECTION WILL BE CELEBRATED ON SATURDAY, MARCH 4.

WHAT IS THE RCIA RITE OF ELECTION?

This Rite marks a key moment. For the catechumens, this Rite signifies that they have been called by Christ and attests to the reality that only those mystically claimed by Christ will enter Heaven. St. John writes, “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Rev 20:15). It is appropriate for the bishop to recognize them because he is the sign of unity of the particular Church, and it is the parish community’s responsibility to bring those in RCIA into the fullness of the life of the Church. The godparents give public testimony about the catechumens. The godparents’ role is very significant; they represent the community and are asked during this Rite to make serious statements about the catechumens. The decision of an RCIA participant to go through this Rite means that the judgment and decision-making (of both the catechumen and the parish) about whether to enter the Catholic Church has ended. From this point forward, they are no longer catechumens but are called the “elect.” They have been chosen to enter into the final period of preparation for initiation, and called by the bishop, their shepherd, to the holy mysteries to be celebrated that Easter.

Casino trips are Family Support Center's only fundraisers. These funds, and donations from the community, are our only source of income. FSC distributes food to those in need every Monday and Wednesday. We also help with financial aid, on a limited basis, for those who need emergency assistance. We need your help to continue in this ministry: Last year we distributed food to over 16,000 individuals!

Please, if you are able, consider joining us on a trip. You will have a good time and, at the same time, be performing a Corporal work of Mercy. We appreciate your consideration!

All donations are Tax Deductible. FSC delivers all donations to the Life Center.

St. Polycarp’s Annual Men’s Retreat will be held at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center on March 24, 25, and 26, 2017. Para preguntas/registro de RICA comuní-quese con la Oficina de Formación de Fe al 714-892-3158. RITO DE ELECCIÓN SE CELEBRARÁ EL SABADO, 4 DE MARZO. ¿CUÁL ES EL RICA RITO DE ELECCIÓN? Este rito marca un momento clave. Para los catecúmenos, este rito significa que han sido llamados por Cristo y dan testimonio de la realidad de que sólo aquellos mística-mente reclamado por Cristo va a entrar en el cielo. San Juan escribe: "Si no se halló inscrito en el libro de la vida fue arrojado al lago de fuego" (Ap 20:15). Es apropiado para el obispo de reconocer, porque él es el signo de la unidad de la Iglesia particular, y es responsabilidad de la comunidad parroquial para que los de RCIA en la pleni-tud de la vida de la Iglesia. Los padrinos dan testimonio público acerca de los catecúmenos. El papel de los padri-nos es muy significativo; que representan a la comunidad y se les pide durante este rito para hacer declaraciones serias sobre los catecúmenos. La decisión de un partici-pante de RICA que pasar por este rito significa que el juicio y la toma de decisiones (tanto del catecúmeno y la parroquia) sobre si se debe entrar en la Iglesia Católica ha terminado. A partir de este punto en adelante, que hay catecúmenos más largos, pero son llamados los "elegidos". Han sido elegidos para entrar en el período final de preparación para la iniciación, y llamado por el obispo, su pastor, a los sagrados misterios que celebrar que Pascua de Resurrección.

ORACIÓN DE LA PSA PARA EL 2017 Dios amoroso, te damos gracias por habernos llamado. En ti somos uno. Ayúdanos a recordar que unidos, somos llamados a amar y servir los unos a los otros a través del generoso compartir de nuestro tiempo, talento y tesoro. Bendice nuestros esfuerzos y ayúdanos a crecer como una comunidad de fe unificada y vibrante. Danos la gracia de apoyar generosamente a la PSA para que podamos hacer fielmente la obra de Tu Iglesia. Amén.

Ya comenzamos a prepararnos para la celebración de nuestro santo patrono, San Policarpo; hagamos un tiempecito para ver que es lo que sabemos acerca de este padre de la Iglesia.

Los que lo querian ejecutar iban a lincharlo, pero el los convenció de que eso no era necesario, entonces, simplemente ataron sus manos por detrás de su espalda. Giáo xứ Thánh Polycarp may mắn có nhiều nền văn hóa và sự sống động của các chương trình mục vụ khác nhau của các cộng đồng giáo dân, điều này đem đến một làn gió thánh thiện chào đón mọi người, đặc biệt là giới trẻ, là những người mong muốn có một đời sống đạo sâu xa hơn với Chúa Giêsu Kitô. Như là những môn đệ của Chúa, chúng ta giúp cho những người nghèo đói, đây là cuộc hành trình đức tin dành cho các anh chị em chúng ta trên con đường sống đạo mới với niềm hy vọng và lòng can đảm, trong một công việc bác ái an toàn và vui vẻ.

6- Rửa Tội bằng tiếng Việt cho các em nhỏ.- Giáo xứ sẽ Rửa Tội bằng tiếng Việt cho các em nhỏ trong Giáo xứ vào lúc 2giờ30 trưa Chúa Nhật ngày 26 tháng 2 năm 2017. Lớp hướng dẫn cho Cha Mẹ và người Đỡ Đầu từ 7 đến 9giờ tối Thứ Ba ngày 21 tháng 2 năm 2017 tại phòng sinh hoạt trước đài Đức Mẹ. Xin quí cha mẹ và người đỡ đầu có mặt đầy đủ và đúng giờ. 7- Buổi sinh hoạt của Huynh Đoàn Đaminh.- Huynh Đoàn Đaminh Vinh Sơn Liêm của Cộng đoàn sẽ có buổi sinh hoạt vào 2giờ chiều Chúa Nhật ngày 26 tháng 2 năm 2017 tại phòng họp thường lệ. Kính mời các Đoàn viên tham dự đông đủ. 8- Cộng đoàn bán thực phẩm gây quỹ yễm trợ Giáo xứ.- Để gây quỹ yểm trợ Giáo xứ, Cộng đoàn sẽ bán Phở vào 2 ngày: Thứ Bảy ngày 11 tháng 3 năm 2017, từ 11giờ trưa đến 8giờ tối; và Chúa Nhật ngày 12 tháng 3 năm 2017, từ 11giờ trưa đến 5giờ30 chiều. Mỗi phần ăn giá $7.00. Ngoài ra, Công đoàn còn bán chả giò với giá $2/3cái. Xin mua vé nơi các Hội Đoàn - Đoàn Thể hoặc tại các cửa tại Thánh đường sau Thánh lễ Việt nam. Xin Cộng đoàn tiếp tay ủng hộ. 9- Giáo xứ phát động chương trình Quĩ Mục Vụ Giáo Phận năm 2017.- Trong hai Thánh lễ Thứ Bảy và Chúa Nhật cuối tuần vừa qua, cùng với Giáo xứ, Cộng đoàn đã phát động chương trình đóng góp cho Quĩ Mục Vụ của Giáo Phận (PSA) năm 2017. Đây là chương trình kêu gọi mọi Giáo dân trong Giáo phận đóng góp tài chánh cho Giáo phận để Giáo phận có nguồn tài chánh sinh hoạt cho Giáo phận đồng thời cũng đóng góp tài chánh cho các sinh hoạt của Giáo hội trung ương tại Rôma. Đây là trách nhiệm và nghĩa vụ của các Kitô hữu cần thực hiện để giúp cho việc truyền giáo tại địa phương cũng như trên thế giới được tiến triển đều hòa. Ngoài ra theo dự trù, trong năm 2017, Giáo xứ phải đóng góp cho Giáo phận hơn 92,000 Dollars US. Nều Giáo xứ góp về Giáo phận đủ số tiền dự trù, thì Giáo phận sẽ hoàn trả lại cho Giáo xứ số tiên dư để giúp Giáo xứ trả nợ số ngân khoản còn nợ Giáo phận từ khi sửa chữa bải đậu xe của Giáo xứ. Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa nhiệt liệt hưởng ứng và tích cực tham gia tùy khả năng tài chánh của mỗi người cho chương trình này.

THÔNG BÁO CỘNG ĐOÀN.

1- Giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng.- Xin Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa lưu ý: Giáo xứ có giờ chầu Thánh Thể thinh lặng từ 3giờ30 đến 5giờ vào mỗi chiều Thứ Bảy trong tuần. Xin kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng đến tham dự giờ chầu Thánh Thể nêu trên. 2- Giờ lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót của Giáo xứ.- Sau Thánh lễ 8giờ30 sáng từ Thứ Hai đến Thứ Bảy trong tuần, Giáo xứ có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếng Mỹ, và vào lúc 3giờ chiều mỗi ngày, Cộng đoàn có lần chuỗi Lòng Chúa Thương Xót bằng tiếng Việt tại Thánh đường. Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa cùng tham dự. 3- Ngày Giáo Xứ chầu Thánh Thể.- Giáo xứ chầu Thánh Thể vào Thứ Tư ngày 22 tháng 2 năm 2017. Cộng đoàn sẽ có 2 giờ chầu: lúc 3giờ chiều do Hội Cầu Nguyện phụ trách và 8giờ tối do Ban Giáo Lý và Việt Ngữ của Cộng đoàn phụ trách. Kính mời Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa sốt sắng tham dự. 4- Giáo xứ mừng bổn mạng, Thánh Polycarp.- Theo lịch phụng vụ, Lễ Thánh Polycarp, Giám Mục Tử Đạo, bổn mạng của Giáo xứ được kính vào 23 tháng 2 hằng năm. Giáo xứ sẽ cử hành Thánh lễ tạ ơn và mừng kính Thánh bổn mạng của Giáo xứ vào lúc 10giờ sáng Thứ Bảy ngày 25 tháng 2 năm 2017 với ba ngôn ngữ Mỹ, Mễ và Việt. Sau Thánh lễ, Giáo xứ sẽ tổ chức tiệc mừng gây quĩ yểm trợ Giáo xứ tại Hội trường với các món ăn Mỹ, Mễ, Phi và Việt. Vé vào cửa là $15. Cho người lớn và $10. Cho các em nhỏ dưới 12 tuổi. Xin đến Văn phòng Giáo xứ để mua vé tham dự tiệc. Ngoài ra, Giáo xứ còn tổ chức thi viết văn bằng Anh ngữ cho các em viết về cảm tưởng lễ bổn mạng Thánh Polycarp với bốn giải thưởng trao tặng cho bốn em thuộc bốn sắc dân Mỹ, Mễ, Việt và Phi. Xin các em và Cộng đoàn Dân Chúa nhiệt liệt hưởng ứng và tham gia. Xin lưu ý, Giáo xứ muốn giới thiệu các nét văn hóa riêng của mỗi sắc dân trong Giáo xứ, nên khuyến khích mỗi sắc dân tham dự nên mặc y phục theo truyền thống của sắc dân mình. Do đó Cộng đoàn kêu gọi quí ông và quí bà nên mặc áo dài tham dự lễ và tiệc mừng. Xin lưu ý: hôm nay không có Thánh lễ lúc 8giờ 30 sáng như thường lệ. 5- Buổi họp hai ngành của Legio Mariae.- Hội Legio-Mariae của Cộng đoàn sẽ có một buổi sinh hoạt cho cả hai ngành Hoạt động và Tán trợ vào lúc 5giờ chiều Thứ Bảy ngày 25 tháng 2 năm 2017 tại phòng họp thường lệ. Kính mời quý hội viên hai ngành cùng tham dự.
