Two huge driers, the largest ever built by Stord Bartz A/S of Norway,passed through Barbours Cut Terminal recently enroute to the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Houston, which is undergoing expansion. The rotarydisc driers will be used to dry brewer’s spent grains, the protein feed by-product of brewing. Each drier contains 7,007 square feet of heating sur-face, one-third of it stainless steel, and weighs approximately 110 tons.The equipment was shipped to Houston aboard the M/V FINN HA WK of

Atlantic Cargo Lines. Inland Imports, Inc., of New York, a subsidiary ofMax Gruenhut GMBH & Co., acted as coordinator for the delivery ar-rangements along with Chris Kennedy of the Gruenhut office in Houston.Stord Bartz Americas, Inc., of White Plains, NY, is the U.S. affiliate of theNorwegian manufacturer. Former PortAuthority execBailey, 87, dies

Vernon Bailey, who had a distinguish-ed 38-year career with the Port ofHouston, died recently at the age of 87.At the time of his retirement in 1965,Bailey was assistant general manager ofthe Port of Houston Authority and hadserved several periods as acting generalmanager.

Bailey was born near Ardmore,Oklahoma in 1896. He started workingfor the Port of Houston in 1928 as aclerk.

Working his way up from clerk tostorekeeper, Bailey eventually served asterminal supervisor and director of portoperations until he was promoted toassistant general manager.

Bailey served as president of theTexas Ports Association and of the GulfPorts Association and as a director ofthe American Association of PortAuthorities. He also was a member ofthe Houston World Trade Associationand the Propeller Club.

A loaded trailer, a part of one of two workover rigs shipped from Houstonto Nigeria in separate ships by Scallop Material Services of New York, isloaded aboard the M/V ROSA ROTH of Medafrica Line at Dock 26. Theshipment shown went to Shell Petroleum Development Co. of Nigeria Ltd.;in Warri, Nigeria. It consisted of 58 pieces, including five large trailers. Thelargest piece measured 53x12x12 feet and weighed 65 tons. The ship-ment was loaded by Strachan Stevedoring. The other rig moved aboard

the M/V TORMAFRICA to Shell, Nigeria in Port Harcourt. Containing moreextra parts, the shipment consisted of 77 pieces. It was loaded by Atlantic& Gulf Stevedoring. Both shipments were crated by 7 Santini Bros., Inc.;H.L. Ziegler, Inc., was the freight forwarder in both instances. Surveyorswere Andrew Holdrup and Capt. W.A. Lowe, both of Mar-Ten MarineAssociates, Ltd.
