Situations Resulting in Disciplinary Action
1. Violation of Japanese Constitutional law, other Japanese regulations, or the terms and conditions of your contract.
2. Behavior inappropriate to the duties of a JET.
3. Unsatisfactory performance of duties which is not expected to improve. (Article 28 of JET Contract)Cultural Heads-upJapanese contracts may not spell out what is or is not considered “appropriate behavior”. Just because it is not explicitly prohibited in the contract does not mean it is okay. If unsure, ask first! Ultimately it is up to your Contracting Organization to decide what they expect from you as a JET.
Think-Pair-Share
So… what might be considered “Behavior inappropriate to the duties of a JET”?1. You will have 1 minute to brainstorm on your
own.2. You will then have 3 minutes to pair up with
someone (or be in a group of three) and compile your ideas.
3. Finally, we will share as a group what might be considered “inappropriate behavior”.
Some important ones…Article 24 Prohibition of sexual harassmentArticle 25 Restriction against involvement in profit making enterprisesArticle 26 Religious activities and other restrictionsArticle 27 Restrictions against the operation of motor vehicles
