Brewer Equipment Co. recognizes that training is
critical to employee and job site safety. Historical-
ly, work on scaffold is an area in which unsafe inci-
dents and injuries occur. Working safely on
scaffold requires knowledge, concentration, and a
commitment to using safe procedures. Training
and safety are an integral part of our day to day
operations. Our safety experts will work closely
with your company to ensure scaffold users are
adequately trained in the safe use of scaffold.
Brewer Equipment Co. is locally owned and our

industry for decades. We are a Scaffold Access and
Industry Association (SAIA) Accredited Training In-
stitute. With our collective experience and com-
mitment to making the scaffold industry as safe as

User Training (SUHAT)
Scaffold User Safety and Hazard Awareness Training
For employees that perform work while on a scaffold. The
course covers safety with regards to falls, falling objects, elec-
trocution, unsafe access, and collapse. Emphasis is on hazard
identification and accident prevention.
It is approximately two hours in length and incorporates a
PowerPoint presentation and student interaction that encour-
ages participation. This course is not designed for workers that
do any type of scaffold erection and has a three year certifica-
tion. This class is also available in an Online Format directly
through the SAIA.
Competent Person Training (CPT)
Scaffold Competent Person Training
Competent person training is available in two major supported
scaffold systems: frame scaffolds and system scaffolds. This
training is for employees, supervisors, and foremen who erect
scaffolds and oversee scaffold erection. The course covers
OSHA regulations, scaffold components, foundation require-
ments, platform requirements, fall protection systems, access
methods, erection and dismantling techniques, and a separate
Scaffold User Hazard Awareness presentation.
A hands-on erection & dismantling session is a required com-
ponent of the course.
The course is comprehensive. It is specifically designed not to
be a one day competency class. Prior to class, each student
receives a fourteen chapter manual. The student is expected
to review the course material and answer the self test ques-
tions at the end of each chapter before attending the review
session and taking the final exam. All students must attain a
passing grade of 70% to successfully complete the course. This
course has a three year certification.

Course Information & Registration
Thank you for your interest in Competent Person Training for Frame Scaffolding. Please review the

The Competent Person Training For Scaffolding course was developed by the Scaffold & Access Industry
Association (SAIA). Brewer Equipment Co. is an Accredited Training Institute and is authorized by the SAIA to
teach the course. The course covers OSHA regulations, scaffold components, foundation requirements,
platform requirements, fall protection systems, access methods, and erection and dismantling techniques. A
separate Scaffold User Hazard Awareness presentation is included. A hands-on erection & dismantling
session is a required component of the course. Students must be physically able to participate in the
erection and dismantling of scaffolds .
The course is divided into four components. Home study of the course material in advance, followed by a one
day class that includes a review session, a hands on session, and a final exam. Students will receive the course
manual two to three weeks in advance of attending the one day review class. The manual contains fourteen
chapters. Each chapter has a learning objective, the study material, and review questions. Answers for the
review questions are provided. It is a well documented fact that students who study the course material and
answer the questions at the end of each chapter have a much higher pass rate on the final exam. We strongly
encourage each student to properly prepare for the course by completing one or two chapters a day.
Upon completion of the course and attaining a passing grade of 70% on the final exam, students will receive a
wall certificate and wallet size card issued by the SAIA indicating they have successfully completed the course.
Please understand, neither the SAIA or Brewer Equipment Co. can certify or designate your employee as
"competent". Only the worker's employer may make that designation. This course is designed to provide
your employees with the knowledge, demonstrated by hands on work and testing, to become a competent
person. You, as the employer, can make the final decision that your employee is indeed competent and give
the employee the authority the OSHA regulations require.
For your additional consideration, many companies will take advantage of the training opportunity to provide
"Scaffold User Hazard Awareness Training" to all other employees that work on scaffolds. This training,
included for those taking the CPT course, lasts approximately two hours and is presented at the beginning of
the review day for the CPT students.
