DIRECTIONS FOR USEIMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

GENERAL INFORMATIONSPITFIRE is mainly absorbed through the foliage of weeds. The ideal timing for application is when the weeds are small and actively growing.

NOTESDo not apply to crops containing or undersown with clover or other legume containing mixtures.Do not spray when crops are under stress from cold, drought, pest damage, nutrient deficiency etc.Do not roll or harrow 7 days before or after application.Take extreme care to avoid drift onto crops and non-target plants outside the target area.

WEED RESISTANCESPITFIRE contains active ingredients with differing modes of action and therefore the risk of resistance building is reduced. However as florasulam is an ALS-inhibitor there is a risk of resistance building to this active ingredient and so

precautions should be taken to minimise the risk. Therefore avoid using single mode of action herbicides, such as ALS herbicides in the same field over a number of years. Growers are advised to apply products containing herbicides with different modes of action or use sequences or tank mixtures where two or more components are active against the target weeds.

CROPSSPITFIRE can be used on all varieties of winter and spring wheat, barley, oats, rye and triticale, and these crops undersown with grass.

SOILSPITFIRE may be used on all soil types.

TIMINGWinter wheat, winter barleySPITFIRE should be applied from 3 leaves (GS 13) before flag leaf sheath opening (GS 47).

Spring wheat, spring barleySPITFIRE should be applied from 3 leaves (GS 13) up to before flag leaf sheath extended stage (GS 39).

Winter oats, spring oats, winter rye, triticaleSPITFIRE should be applied from 3 leaves (GS 13) up to before second node detectable stage (before GS32).

Undersown cereal cropsSPITFIRE may be applied to winter and spring wheat, barley, oats, rye and triticale crops undersown with grass.

Application should be made when the grasses have at least 3 fully expanded leaves and when weeds are actively growing.

RATES OF USE, WEED SUSCEPTIBILITY AND MAXIMUM SIZE CONTROLLEDOne application of SPITFIRE at 1.0 L/ha will control all susceptible emerged weeds. A split application may be applied up to a maximum total dose of 1.0 L/ha where weed germination takes place over an extended period.For autumn planted crops the maximum total dose of SPITFIRE applied must not exceed 0.75 L/ha for applications made between crop emergence in the year of planting and February 1st in the year of harvest.

APPLICATIONSPITFIRE may be applied through tractor-mounted hydraulic sprayers providing they are in good working order and have been calibrated according to the manufacturers’ recommendations.

Do not apply through CDA applicators.

WATER VOLUMEApply SPITFIRE in 100 to 300 litres of water per hectare. The lower volume must only be used in open crops on small weeds.

FOLLOWING CROPSCrops that can be sown in the year of treatment with SPITFIRE: Cereals, oilseed rape1, field beans, vegetable brassicas as transplants, grass.

1Vigour reductions may be seen in following crops of oilseed rape after a dry summer. This will be outgrown and will not result in yield loss.Crops that can be sown the calendar year following treatment with SPITFIRE: Cereals, oilseed rape, field beans, carrots, vegetable brassicas as transplants grass, linseed, peas, sugar beet,

potatoes, maize, clover (for use in grass/clover mixtures).

JOINT APPLICATIONA joint application is the use of a product in tank mixture or sequence with another product.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Joint applications should only be made within the label recommendations of every product in the application.

Only one other product with an ALS-inhibitor mode of action may be applied to a cereal crop treated with SPITFIRE. However a further application of SPITFIRE or another product containing florasulam may also be made providing the maximum total dose of florasulam is not exceeded1.

SPITFIRE may be applied in joint application to the same cereal crop with one of the following ALS products:

1 The maximum total dose of florasulam applied to the crop must not exceed 7.5 g. For autumn planted crops a maximum total dose of 3.75 g of florasulam, must be observed for applications made between crop emergence in the year of planting and February 1st in the year of harvest.

Apart from these specific joint applications SPITFIRE must NOT be applied with any other product containing an ALS-inhibitor, for example amidosulfuron.

CROP FAILUREIn the event of a crop failure in the spring with SPITFIRE, only the following crops may be planted: spring wheat, spring barley, spring oats, maize or ryegrass.

MIXINGHalf fill the spray tank with water and add the required amount of SPITFIRE. Fill up the spray tank, agitating continuously to ensure thorough mixing, and maintain agitation until spraying is complete. Use only clean water for mixing.

SPRAY QUALITYApply SPITFIRE as a MEDIUM spray as defined by the BCPC system.

TANK MIXTURESWhere tank mixes are used, and unless directed otherwise, the preferred order of addition of products to the spray tank is as follows: water dispersible granules, wettable powders, suspension concentrates (flowables), emulsifiable concentrates, solution concentrates. Each product should be added to the half-full sprayer and be fully dispersed before the addition of the next product.

TANK CLEANINGTo avoid subsequent injury to crops other than cereals, all spraying equipment must be thoroughly cleaned both inside and out, using All Clear Extra spray cleaner as follows:

1. Immediately after spraying, drain tank completely. Any contamination on the outside of the spraying equipment should be removed by washing with clean water.

2. Rinse inside of tank with clean water and flush through booms and hoses using at least one tenth of the spray tank volume. Drain tank completely.

3. Half fill tank with clean water and add All Clear Extra at the recommended rate. Agitate and then briefly flush the boom and hoses with the cleaning solution. Top up with water making sure the tank is completely full and allow to stand for 15 minutes with agitation. Flush the boom and hoses and drain tank completely.

4. Nozzles and filters should be removed and cleaned separately with All Clear Extra solution containing 50 ml of All Clear Extra per 10 litres of water.

5. Rinse the tank with clean water and flush through the boom and hoses using at least one tenth of the spray tank volume. Drain tank completely.

SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES4.1 Description of first aid measuresGeneral advice: First Aid responders should pay attention to self-protection and use the recommended protective clothing (chemical resistant gloves, splash protection). If potential for exposure exists refer to Section 8 for specific personal protective equipment.

Inhalation: Move person to fresh air. If person is not breathing, call an emergency responder or ambulance, then give artificial respiration; if by mouth to mouth use rescuer protection (pocket mask etc). Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be administered by qualified personnel.

Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. Wash clothing before reuse. Shoes and other leather items which cannot be decontaminated should be disposed of properly. Suitable emergency safety shower facility should be available in work area.

Eye contact: Hold eyes open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eyes. 4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment neededNotes to physician: Maintain adequate ventilation and oxygenation of the patient. May cause asthma-like (reactive airways) symptoms. Bronchodilators, expectorants, antitussives and corticosteroids may be of help. The decision of whether to induce vomiting or not should be made by a physician. If lavage is performed, suggest endotracheal and/or esophageal control. Danger from lung aspiration must be weighed against toxicity when considering emptying the stomach. No specific antidote. Treatment of exposure should be directed at the control of symptoms and the clinical condition of the patient. Have the Safety Data Sheet, and if available, the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment. SECTION 5. FIREFIGHTING MEASURES5.1 Extinguishing mediaSuitable extinguishing media: To extinguish combustible residues of this product use water fog, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam. Dry chemical fire extinguishers. Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers. Foam. General purpose synthetic foams (including AFFF type) or protein foams are preferred if available. Alcohol resistant foams (ATC type) may function.

5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixtureHazardous combustion products: During a fire, smoke may contain the original material in addition to combustion products of varying composition which may be toxic and/or irritating. Combustion products may include and are not limited to: Nitrogen oxides. Hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen chloride. Carbon monoxide. Carbon dioxide.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: This material will not burn until the water has evaporated. Residue can burn. May produce flash fire. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel a long distance and accumulate in low lying areas. Ignition and/or flash back may occur. If exposed to fire from another source and water is evaporated, exposure to high temperatures may cause toxic fumes. Dense smoke is produced when product burns.

5.3 Advice for firefightersFire Fighting Procedures: Keep people away. Isolate fire and deny unnecessary entry. Stay upwind. Keep out of low areas where gases (fumes) can accumulate. Use water spray to cool fire exposed containers and fire affected zone until fire is out and danger of reignition has passed. Eliminate ignition sources. To extinguish combustible residues of this product use water fog, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam. Contain fire water run-off if possible. Special protective equipment for firefighters: Wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and protective fire fighting clothing (includes fire fighting helmet, coat, trousers, boots, and gloves). Avoid contact with this material during fire fighting operations. If contact is likely, change to full chemical resistant fire fighting clothing with self-contained breathing apparatus. If this is not available, wear full chemical resistant clothing with self-contained breathing apparatus and fight fire from a remote location. SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Isolate area. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering the area. Keep personnel out of low areas. Keep upwind of spill. Ventilate area of leak or spill. No smoking in area.
