Safety Month Celebration on 4th

March 2013

The National Safety Day being spearheaded by the Council for nearly

three decades to mark its Foundation Day (4th March) has significantly

contributed to reduction in the rate of industrial accidents and created

wide spread safety awareness even in such sectors which have not been

covered by any safety legislation.

Every industry is celebrating the safety day with various activities. To be a

part of the national safety system we CCT decided to celebrate the safety

day on 4th March. The celebration of this day is aimed at renewing our

commitments towards the safety.

We have invited eminent personnel Mr.G.M.E.K Raj, former Director

General, Inspectorate of Dock safety, and Mr. Nijalingappa, Dy.Director

DOCK safety to grace this function.

The Safety Month celebrations commenced with welcome address by

Penny Thatheus, G.M QHSET followed by flag hoisting by

CEO,Mr.Ennarasu Karunesan. The theme of the Safety Month is “Work

Together to Ensure Safe and Healthy Workplace”. Safety is every ones

responsibility and this is the time to refresh and rededicate follow the

terminal safety regulations to ensure zero Incidents and zero fatality in

the terminal.

Safety month pledge was read out by all and HOD’s shared their views on

following safety rules in work place to ensure the safe place.

The Guest speaker Sri.G.M.E.K.Raj, Former Director General, DGFASLI,

gave special address to the audience to emphasize the safety needs in

industries, like port, manufacturing unit, and production centre to

maintain the zero incidents. Mr. Raj appreciated CCT about the

initiatives taken towards safety. He mainly pointed out the proper

maintenance, documenting the incidents, culture and walk the talk. It

was really a booster doze for all the CCT employees.

Events& Awards/rewards:

In view of the safety day we had conducted safety quiz programs for

employees and the prizes were distributed in the function. CCT never

forget to recognize the contractor work force for their exemplary

contribution in safety and in that way we had rewarded 10 safe

contractor personnel.

CEO, Ennarasu Karunesan, Sri.G.M.E.K.Raj and HODs distributed the

prizes.

The keynote address was given by our CEO, Mr.Ennarasu Karunesan

wherein his inspirational speech touched many hearts and he mainly

emphasized the importance of safety in all spheres of our life - both at

work place and outside. He put across various data about the

accidents rates in India and Chennai. He again and again reiterated

Zero tolerance & Zero incidents which is need of hour today in our

terminal to ensure the safety.
