E. coli can cause :• Diarrhea• Urinary tract infections• Respiratory illness• Bloodstream infections and other illnesses.

WHAT IS ESCHERICHIA COLI ?

• The best way to prevent spreading of E. coli to other people is to maintain proper hygiene.

• Clear your work area• Wipe off your lab table with

disinfectant solution.• Do not incubate plates for

more than the given time.

• Do not touch your face when handling plates or tubes with E. coli .

• Wear gloves and lab coats.• Immerse instruments in

bleach solution to kill bacteria when working with bacterial cultures and dispose them in a BIOHAZARD bag.

• Wash hands regularly• Sterilize all instruments, solutions,

and media prior to using them for plating procedures.

• Clear away all materials cluttering your work area on the laboratory bench.

be appropriately trained.• Wear safety glasses
