SAC "Safety doesn’t happen by accident" "Safety Alliance of Cushing”

There are many other associate

members of SAC. This represents;

Any or all companies/organizations

that would like to come under SAC

that have an interest in the safety,

emergency response, and well

being of the citizens of Cushing

and surrounding communities.



Associate Members –

Are persons who have an interest in the

Alliance and hold a position in a similar

industry, City of Cushing, applicable

County officials & State and Federal

agencies.



SAC History:

During April 2001, one of the local oil

companies had a transport accident in

Cushing. Within minutes of hearing

about the incident, several employees

from different pipeline companies

converged on the scene to offer

assistance but were met with a road

block.



SAC History Continued‘ –

Both the company owning the vehicle

involved in the accident and local

authorities wanted the area shut off from

all traffic. We will never know if the other

oil company personnel could have made

a difference in the outcome of this

accident and the remediation that took

place.

SAC History Continued’ –

But it is the opinion of those involved

that the extra help WOULD have made

a significant difference.

It was then determined that an alliance

be formed that could respond to

emergencies, share equipment during

emergencies & engage in joint training.




The name Safety Alliance of Cushing

(SAC) was created and then decided

would meet during the lunch hour on the

last Wednesday of each month and that

one of the oil companies would sponsor

on a rotating basis.




From there we have grown to current

membership of;

14 Oil and Gas Terminals

Local Law & Fire Officials

Local, County & State EM’s

State Hwy Patrol & 2 County Sheriff

Departments




Various City of Cushing Officials

County Commissioners

FBI, Secret Service, Homeland

Security, National Guard, OSBI, TSA

Various Contractors & others.

All Pipeline Operators received message

giving them there 1st inject stating the

damage and/or injuries incurred.

They were tasked with getting info back

to IC in a timely manner.

Helped all to prepare especially for

another critical round of F-5 tornado

threats 2 weeks later

Several threats were headed directly

towards Cushing.

Re-think technology and go back to

basic ways of communicating with ER’s

Overall, everyone worked well together

Learned how SAC can benefit from utilizing

OSBI and OHP communications, especially

if all communications goes down as result

of Tornado.
