SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF THE RISDP

• Designed to provide strategic direction with respect to SADC programmes, projects and activities

• The RISDP aligns the strategic objectives and priorities with the policies and strategies to be pursued towards achieving those goals.

Key objectives of the Protocol on STI

Provide a base for development of institutional mechanisms for regional cooperation and coordination of STI

Ensure proper coordination of resources for regional STI programmes as identified in the RISDP and “CPA”

Promote development and harmonisation of STI policies in the region

Maximise public and private investment in R&D in the region

Regional STI Strategic Framework• The STI Strategic Framework envisions a region

where science, technology and innovation drive a sustainable social and economic development, alleviate poverty and disease, and underpin the creation of employment opportunities and wealth.

• Its mission aims to promote regional cooperation in the development, mastery, transfer of science, technology and innovation by securing and allocating appropriate resources, and strengthening national innovation systems.
