SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OH Deacon John Mulhollan will be ordained to the priesthood of Jesus Christ for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist by Bishop Richard G. Lennon. I am sure that everyone is very excited to have one of our parishioners ordained a priest for our diocese. Our prayers for vocations continue to bear fruit. We must continue to pray that more of our young people will hear and respond to God’s call to the ordained and consecrated life. Deacon John will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 22, at 12 Noon with a parish reception to follow downstairs. ALL ARE WELCOME. Today is MOTHER’S DAY! I hope that all the mothers of our parish community have a great day. This day affords a great opportunity to reflect on the love and support that we have experienced from our mothers. Mothers have a tremendous influence on our lives. This teaches us so many things about life and love. All that we learn from our mothers can and does have a powerful impact on all that we do. The image of a mother is always one that is extremely loving and giving. We assume that mothers will always put their children first and would sacrifice anything and everything for the sake of their children. This is quite an image that we have concerning the role of a mother in our lives. Where do we get this idea, this image of what a mother is supposed to be? I would say that we get this image from our faith in God. Our mothers are the first person in our lives with whom we have a relationship. This relationship begins at the very first moment of our lives and continues for some nine months until our mother gives birth. For the most part, this is a bond that endures and is probably best understood by the mother herself. I think this can give us some insight into our relationship with God. As the psalmist asks, “Can a mother forget her child?” The response follows, “Even should she forget, I (God) will not forget.” It is through our mothers that we first experience the love of God. As a result, our mothers become so very important in our lives, even if the child is adopted, the power of that love is so very strong. Mother’s Day is important to all of us, but what is more important is how important our mothers are to us EVERY day. As we honor our mothers today, we pray that God will bless them and watch over them. May our mothers always follow the example of our Blessed Mother by leading us closer to God and helping us to be more like Jesus. Let us not forget to pray for our mothers who have gone before us in faith, that they may enjoy the fullness of God’s love in His eternal kingdom. A new Parochial Vicar for Sacred Heart. I received word last week from Bishop Lennon that he has assigned The Reverend Patrick A. Spicer to be the parochial vicar here at Sacred Heart. Fr. Spicer was ordained in 2012 and was assigned to St. Rita Parish in Solon, Ohio, where he has served the past four years. We are very happy to welcome Fr. Spicer to our parish community. He will arrive here on Tuesday, June 14. Congratulations and God bless to Chelsea Wein, daughter of Eric and Karen Wein. She is a Hoban honors student and also a National Merit Scholarship finalist. She will be going to Michigan State this fall. Chelsea is also a Sacred Heart graduate class of 2012. We are all proud of Chelsea, as I am sure her mom and dad and her family are as well. God bless you and good luck at Michigan State. We recently received another check for the Rooted in Faith, Forward in Hope Campaign for over $18,000.00 and it will be divided into the Capital Improvement Fund and the Parish Endowment Fund. I was informed that we have paid the portion of our pledges that was designated as our goal. Therefore, we will now receive 70% of every dollar that is paid from now on. So if you have not been able to keep your pledge payments current, now would be the time to renew your efforts knowing that 70 cents of every dollar will come to our parish. Thank you all for your sacrifices and generosity in this campaign. Your efforts have helped many people including our own parish. May God bless you for all your kindness and generosity. See the insert in today’s bulletin for more information. We are in the midst of our Jubilee Year of Mercy during which the Church has enabled many to receive a plenary indulgence for themselves or for a loved one who has died. The information is contained in the other insert in today’s bulletin. Please read it and hopefully you and your family can perform the necessary action and say the prayers needed to obtain this special grace. If you have any questions, please call me or email me at the Parish Office.
