Eucharistic Adoration—Jubilee Year of Mercy

Are you ready to celebrate the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy? Pope Francis has proclaimed this year of Mercy to begin on Dec. 8, 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and ending on Nov. 20, 2016, Solemnity of Christ the King. This will be only the fourth extraordinary Jubilee Year in church history and so an unprecedented time of mercy in our lives! To help you celebrate this extraordinary time, and grow closer to Jesus, the Divine Mercy Incarnate, through

Mary Immaculate, why not consider spending some quiet time with Jesus.

Eucharistic Adoration is open to all and is held every Tuesday, from 8 AM until 7 PM. Nothing is needed to do this but an open heart to Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Presently, we are in need of adorers for 3 PM, 4 PM and 5 PM. If you are interested in becoming an adorer, please call Joann Di Liberto at 610 932 8962.

Stewardship Corner~

St. Paul’s joy that he proclaims and encourages us to share in the Second Reading is also based upon the presence of Christ. We speak often of stewardship, of a way of life where people give of themselves, of what they may have, their time, their talent, and their treasure, out of love and a sense of service to others. It is said that stewardship people are happy people, people who have a strong sense of trust in God, and who view things in a positive way. That is what Paul wants us to do as well. Paul tells us “Your kindness should be known to all.” The Greek word which Paul used for “kindness” was epieikeia which can be translated as patience, a softness of heart, modesty, forbearance, a magnanimous feeling toward others. That, too, is what our Advent preparations should reflect. They should prepare us for what is in reality the Christmas Spirit, a true sense of elation reflected in how we live our lives and how we treat others.

When asked what we should do, St. John the Baptist in the Gospel says in effect that we should share; we should treat others with respect and justice; we should not be spiteful or nasty. Are these not the same things we try to teach children? Sometimes when we get older, and bit more callous, we forget that this is the attitude we are expected to have, the way to live our lives as Christians and Catholics. Now, Advent, is the time to make that conversion, that change, that repentance. As John indicates, we have been baptized by the Lord with “the Holy Spirit and fire.” The Lord has the power to transform us. Advent, the time right now when the coming of the Lord is imminent, is the time to allow Jesus to change our hearts and to help us be the disciples He wants and loves.

Peace,

Kaitlyn Sceski

Winter SAT/PSAT Training Held at Bishop Shanahan High School Classes start January 22, 2014

The SAT/PSAT training for the fall testing will be completed before the March or May SAT Test. The historical average increase in test scores for a class is between 125 and 175 points. This is the perfect time for students to concentrate on SAT material to prepare for the March, May or June PSAT/SAT testing cycle. Students will have ample time to finish

homework assignments and focus on the concepts needed to be successful for the up-coming tests.

If a student has already taken our course, then they can retake the 35 hours of training with more difficult math and verbal assignments that are coordinated with each lecture. The cost of the refresher course is $300.00.

For more information go to Bishop Shanahan’s web site and on the bottom of the opening page click on the link for “SAT Prep” or call Dr. Fuller at 610-275-9660.

The importance of SAT Scores can never be understated in the college application process. Above average SAT scores can enhance your college application to the point where you may receive thousands of dollars in free tuition scholarship monies with the proper SAT scores. Dr. Fuller’s SAT program is the most comprehensive SAT course in the area. We offer 35 hours of training and a ratio of 8 students to one teacher in mathematics to ensure the most comprehensive educational environment your child will experience.

Please call Dr. Fuller to discuss just how important the SAT is to your child’s future educational goals.

The Bishop Shanahan High School Fine Arts Department will present its annual Christmas Concert and Art Exhibit on Friday, December 18th at 7:30pm. The public is invited. A free will offering will be accepted.
