Registration: Everyone in the parish should be properly registered. New parishioners, as well as those moving out of the parish, should contact the Parish Office as soon as possible.

Funerals: Arrangements are made with the Parish Office through the funeral director before publication in the newspaper.

Last Sunday you received the summary of our annual financial report to the diocese. As you heard in the presentation from the members of Finance Council, we have encountered some difficulties in the area of our finances. There are always things that come up and repairs that are needed or we have to replace things, just like you experience at home. We could use a little more help in this area. You may want to consider a small increase in your weekly contribution, for example, $5.00. It is not that much to an individual, but if a lot of people increase their contribution by at least $5.00,

that really adds up. Please prayerfully consider making your contribution a sacrifice so that you may express your gratitude to God for all that He has given you. Thank you for all that you do for our parish family. A special thanks to all the members of our Finance Council: Chris Serger, Janelle Niese, Joe Turk, Kevin Dunn, and Chong Won.

Please remember that the Rosary is prayed every morning in the Chapel of Divine Mercy at 7:30 AM. We also pray the Rosary on the First Saturday of each month after the 8:00 AM Mass in the church. Every Wednesday afternoon in October, the school children pray the Rosary which is followed by Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. The Altar & Rosary Society will lead the LIVING ROSARY on Tuesday, October 22 after the 8:00 AM Mass. Everyone is invited to participate in the Rosary at any of these times. Please make the time to pray the Rosary during this month of the Holy Rosary.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS! On October 25, 26, 27, we will hold our annual Solemn Eucharistic Devotions which will begin on Friday, October 25, with a special school Mass at 9:30 AM. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will continue on the main altar throughout the weekend and we will have our Solemn Closing with Evening Prayer, and a procession with the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday, October 27, beginning with the Rosary at 4:00 PM, and Evening Prayer at 4:30 PM. Those preparing to receive their First Holy Communion and Confirmation will also join in our procession to honor the Eucharistic presence of our Lord. Please make every effort to be a part of this special weekend of praise and prayer as we give thanks to God for the gift of Himself in the Holy Eucharist. Our guest homilist this year will be Fr. Martin Dober, Parochial Vicar at St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor and recently ordained this past May.

Today, Pope Francis will canonize Blessed John Henry Newman. He is the founder of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in England. Cardinal Newman was one of the most prominent converts to the Catholic Church from Anglicanism in the 19th century and was a renowned preacher and theologian. The author of 40 books and 21,000 letters, his most famous are his book-length “Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine, On Consulting the Faithful in Matters of Doctrine, Apologia Pro Vita Sua” — his spiritual autobiography up to 1864 — and “Essay on the Grammar of Assent.” Newman was a central figure within the Oxford Movement in the Church of England, and this helped him to make his Newman’s long spiritual pilgrimage “out of shadows and images into the truth” which encourages all Christians to persevere in their quest for God above all else. His conversion to Catholicism is a clear example of how God uses all the circumstances of our lives to draw us to Himself, in His own good time, and in so many different ways. Born in London in 1801, Newman was named a cardinal in 1879 and took as his motto Cor ad cor loquitur — “Heart speaks to heart.” He died in Edgbaston, England, in 1890. Benedict XVI beatified Newman in England on Sept. 19, 2010, after the Vatican approved the miraculous healing of Deacon Jack Sullivan, a native of Braintree, Massachusetts, who recovered from a crippling spinal condition after praying to Newman for his intercession — and was also inspired to pray to him after watching an EWTN program. I am sure that many people are aware of the Newman Clubs on the campuses of many secular colleges and universities. These clubs are supposed to provide a place and environment for Catholic students to practice and learn more about their Catholic Faith. There is a Newman Club for the University of Akron at St. Bernard’s Parish near the university. I would encourage any of our young people attending Akron University to check it out and get involved. The same goes for all of our young people attending secular colleges. The Newman Ministry has much to offer college students to keep them focused on their Catholic Faith. St. John Henry Newman, pray for us.

LIFE CHAIN. Thank you to all you came out in the rain last Sunday for our Life Chain to pray and witness to our community the sanctity of Human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Special thanks the Alan and Patty Beery for organizing this event for our parish. May God bless all of you for your efforts and devotion. TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 13, 2019

Baptism: By prior arrangement with the Parish Office. Parents are expected to attend the Pre-Baptismal Instruction which is held the first Sunday of March, June, September and December after the noon Mass. Marriage: Couples intending to marry must meet with a Priest or Deacon at least six months prior to the desired wedding date. At least one of the parties must be a registered member of Sacred Heart. Anointing of the Sick: In case of serious illness or before surgery, please call the Parish Office. Communion Calls: Homebound parishioners unable to come to Mass should notify the Parish Office so that Holy Communion may be brought to their homes. Sacrament of Penance: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to Noon, and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. or by appointment. To Be A Godparent/Sponsor: You must be registered at a parish and a practicing Catholic at least 16 years old and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist as well as being in a valid marriage, if married. Those Catholics who have joined another religion may not act as Godparent or Christian Witness or who no longer attend Mass weekly. Crisis Pregnancies: Don’t panic. Help of ALL KIND is available. Bequests: A bequest to your parish is a way to honor your church and faith of your lifetime.
