M ain Parts of the Eucharist Liturgy The eucharistic liturgy has four main parts: The Introductory Rites (“Gathering Rites”), which ritually form us into a worshiping assembly of believers. The Liturgy of the Word is also called the “Table of the Word” to show its relative importance to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We are fed at both, but in different ways. The Liturgy of the Eucharist, which begins with the preparation of the gifts and continues through the communion rite. The Concluding Rite, which sends us forth to bring our experience of Christ to the world.

Why do Catholics honor saints in our churches? Saint are spiritual role models whose examples we can follow to Heaven. Viewing statues and images of them in our churches helps us to recall their heroic virtue and faithful love for God. The statues, and the saints them-selves, are not meant to be objects of worship. Instead, we recognize the good these holy people did and honor their examples. Just as in praising a painting we honor the painter, in praising the saints, we honor God who made them.
“Protecting God’s Children” Preventing child sexual abuse is the goal of the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Office. “Protecting God’s Children” is the program se-lected by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to educate clergy, staff, and volunteers who work with children and youth about child sexual abuse and the ways to create a safe environment for chil-dren. The 3-hour live session includes videos and facilitated discussions that focus on the prevention of abuse and the protection of children. Adults learn how to recognize the warning signs of sexual abuse and to respond appropriately. You will learn about steps that the faith community can take to create a safe environment for all God’s children and how to respond when adults behave in a way that raises concerns. A “Protecting God’s Children” workshop will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community in English on the following dates: November 11, 2017 at 9:00 am December 2, 2017 at 9:00 am All attendees must have a current Driver’s license (any state), State-issued Identification Card, Passport (any country), Mexico or Guatemala Consulate ID in order to attend a “Protecting God’s Children” Workshop. When pre-registering for the class, you must use your name and date of birth as it appears on your DL, ID, or Passport. Please pre-register online at www.virtusonline.org
“Keeping the Promise Alive” “Keeping the Promise Alive” is a mandatory
refresher course that went into effect 2011-2012. Employees and volunteers are required to attend “Keeping the Promise Alive” after 5 years of attending the “Protecting God’s Children”® program. It is a 1.5 hour session with one video that provides ongoing awareness for the prevention of child sexu-al abuse. The material covered in “Keeping the Promise Alive” is designed to identify and reinforce the lessons of the original “Protecting God’s Chil-dren” program by clarifying some of the more chal-lenging aspects of the sessions and strengthening the participants’ ability to recognize risky behavior by adults in their environments and take action to intervene in potentially threatening situations. “Keeping the Promise Alive” workshops in English will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community on the following dates: December 16, 2017 at 9:00 am January 13, 2018 at 9:00 am Registration Directions: Important note: Please log into your original account created when you attended a VIRTUS Pro-tecting God’s Children® workshop. If you do not re-member your user id and password, please contact Michele, Parish Safe Environment Coordinator, at 281-489-8720 or via email at [email protected].
