SACRED HEART CHURCH TROY, NEW YORK

NEW TO THE PARISH – WELCOME! We are happy to have you in our community and hope that you will enjoy a truly Christian experience with us. Please call or stop by the rectory to register (518) 274-1363. This helps us for sacraments, sick calls or any other assistance you may need. Thank you!

SCRIPTURE READING REFLECTION

One might say that this Sunday’s Scripture readings focus on the gift of Wisdom (one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit presented to us in Baptism/Confirmation). In the first reading, we need to appreciate that the praise goes to the request for Wisdom not just for one’s personal benefit, but, e.g. in the case of King Solomon, for the sake of those whom he governed. What Solomon actually did with the gift is another matter. In the second reading, St Paul further elaborating what it means to be a part of the Mystical Body of Christ, points out on the one hand that: “…all things work for the good of those who love God, who are called according to His purpose”, while on the other hand being part of the image of Christ implies joining in His rejection and suffering in order to reach glory. Finally, in St. Matthew’s Gospel as we finish the parables section of chapter 13, Jesus reminds us that sharing in life with Him, if we are truly wise, will be so precious to us that we place it above all other life decisions (the treasure in the field, the pearl of great price, etc.). Not to exercise that Wisdom (e.g. Solomon swayed by his pagan wives) will inevitably lead to misery (“...the weeping and gnashing of teeth”).

This weekend is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a wor ldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please help if you are able.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 26, 2020

SCHOOL NEWS SACRED HEART SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS

The school office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am-12noon

or you can call 518-274-3655. 2020-2021 Registration: Registration for our UPK 3 year old, UPK 4 year old, Early Childhood 3-4 year old and grades K-6 continues. Registration packets and information are just a phone call away! As always, you are all invited to schedule a personal tour of your school at any time. Simply contact the school office at 518-274-3655 to make these arrangements. You may also email Mrs. MacLasco at [email protected]. We know that you will be amazed at all of the wonderful things that are happening here in your school!

Box Tops for Education: Clip and submit the Box Tops for Education labels found on participating products. Some of these include: Ziploc, Scott, Kleenex, cereals, Hefty, Annie’s, Land O Lakes, Reynold’s, Green Giant, Pillsbury, etc. A complete listing can be found on the bulletin board outside of the school office. The new scanning instead of clipping program is a bit trickier but can be easily used once established. Instead of clipping the box tops, you scan the box top and your cash register receipt into your account and it is then credited to Sacred Heart. CLYNK Bags: Returnable cans and bottles are collected in coded green bags and then deposited at a local Hannaford Market. The credit is applied to our school account and all proceeds will benefit our school programming. Bags are available in the hallway outside of the church and/or in the school office. Colonie Center School Bucks Program: We were just notified that the closure of the Colonie Center Mall due to COVID-19 has impacted this program in many ways. The administration will be forwarding new guidelines to us soon but they have hinted that they will be reestablishing it as a year-long program. So be ready for the mall to reopen and save your receipts. More news about this to follow!

ALTAR BREAD AND WINE - In memory of a deceased loved one or to commemorate a special event, a donation can be made to purchase the monthly altar bread and/or wine offered at each Eucharistic celebration. For more information, please call the parish office at 274-1363. Our Altar Bread and Wine for the month of July has been gifted in memory of Daniel and Helen Kelley for their 81st Wed. Anniv. by Their Children.
