Sacred Heart School Virtual Art Gallery

Each year at this time, The Oxford Arts Alliance typically has a student art show including work of students from the Oxford Area. Since this year, we are living under different circumstances, and the physical exhibition could not take place, art teacher, Mrs. Joann Saltysiak has put together a Virtual Art Gallery of work from Sacred Heart School which can be viewed on their website. The student art work is stunning and is divided by grade with each class having their own Gallery. You can check it out at:

www.shsoxford.us. The Oxford Arts Alliance is currently undertaking the #StandWithPresence art challenge. Their goal is to gather 1,000 photos! They will be combined into one gigantic 6 foot tall mosaic of Presence, and when we can safely gather again, they will put it on display for all to see! Visit their web page at www.oxfordart.org to see how you can participate.

SAINTS WHO WERE MOTHERS

We complete this month’s focus on Saints who were Mothers with three more “modern” women. We hope you’ve enjoyed this spiritual journey looking back to our mothers in faith as examples of prudence, wisdom and love.

Did any of these women speak to you? Pray for her intercession for help in your daily struggles - whatever they may be.

Saint Marie-Aselie Guerin Martin

Zelie Martin and her husband Louis were canonized in October, 2015 making them the first spouses in the Church’s history to be canonized as a couple. She is best known as the mother of St. Therese but all five of her living children entered the religious life. This gives us insight into the emphasis on living a life for God that was present in the Martin home. Virtue: Piety Role Model for: Mothers who suffer headaches; Mothers with cancer; Mothers who have lost a child (4 of the Martin’s children died during childhood); Stay at home Mothers Quote: “Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.” ~Therese of Lisieux

Saint Teresa of Calcutta Mother Teresa may not have had any biological children, but she had thousands of spiritual children. She cared for those whose own mothers’ had forsaken and abandoned them. She met their physical, emotional and spiritual needs by caring for them with the love of Christ. Her compassion and empathy are an example for all mothers. Virtue: Charity Role Model for: Adoptive mothers; Mothers who have spiritual children Quote: “Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” ~Mother Teresa

Saint Gianna Molla St. Gianna was a wife, a mother and a doctor. She lived out her Catholic faith daily. Faced with a high-risk pregnancy when expecting her 4th child, doctors told her that only an abortion would save her life. She refused the procedure and chose to save the life of her child, sacrificing her own, dying one week after the child’s birth. Virtue: Faith Role Model for: Working mothers; Those experiencing a difficult pregnancy; Mothers who are ill. Quote: “The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that He, in His goodness, sends to us day after day.”
