Reflection from the Pastor:

This Tuesday, the holy Catholic Church celebrates the Assumption of the

Blessed Virgin Mary. It is one of the holy days of obligation. Our Masses

will be Tuesday August 15 at 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

What is the mystery of the Assumption? The basic

teaching of the Assumption is that, “when the

course of her earthly life was finished, Mary was

taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and

exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that

she might be more fully conformed to her Son, the

Lord of lords and conqueror of death (Lumen

gentium)”. Mary has received a unique gift from

her Son in that she is honored in a special way, but

her bodily assumption into heaven is not unique.

No, we too will be assumed into heaven when Our Lord Jesus Christ comes at

the end of time. Then He will resurrect our bodies, glorifying them like His

own Body and will bring us into a new heaven and a new earth. Where Our

Lord has gone, we hope to follow. Mary is the first one of our race to go, but

she is not the last!
