Sacred Heart Catholic Church Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time–September 17, 2017 Reflection from the Pastor: Forgiveness is a difficult thing, but it is especially difficult when the offense never seems to go away. Being continually reminded of past hurts can bring up all the emotions that surrounded the original experience and it can be a cause for us to continue to hate and harbor resentment. Today’s Gospel reminds us of the need to continually forgive those who hurt us, not just at each new offense, but every time we remember past hurts. The memories can be just as or even more painful than the original hurt. When we remember past hurts, we can become burdened with the knowledge that we have been suffering this way for years, and that can heap on even more pain. The passing of years does not always heal. What does heal? It is forgiveness. To forgive is to make a decision in favor of love. Forgiveness does not take away the memories, but it provides more peace than revenge ever could. Forgiveness releases us from the burden of being owed something by another, something that our attacker can never repay. Fr. Sacred Heart Catholic Church Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time–September 17, 2017

Reflection from the Pastor:

Forgiveness is a difficult thing, but it is especially difficult when the

offense never seems to go away. Being continually reminded of past hurts can

bring up all the emotions that surrounded the original experience and it can be a

cause for us to continue to hate and harbor resentment. Today’s Gospel reminds

us of the need to continually forgive

those who hurt us, not just at each

new offense, but every time we

remember past hurts. The memories

can be just as or even more painful

than the original hurt. When we remember past hurts, we can become burdened

with the knowledge that we have been suffering this way for years, and that can

heap on even more pain. The passing of years does not always heal. What does

heal? It is forgiveness. To forgive is to make a decision in favor of love.

Forgiveness does not take away the memories, but it provides more peace than

revenge ever could. Forgiveness releases us from the burden of being owed

something by another, something that our attacker can never repay.

perdonemos a nuestro hermano pecador setenta veces siete,
