Stewardship of Treasure “For it is in giving that we receive”

“Remember the past with gratitude. Live the present with enthusiasm. Look forward to the future with confidence.” –St. JohnPaul II

We do not recall our past with nostalgia, sadness, or regret, but rather with gratitude for everything God allowed us to experience so that we could deepen our character. We embrace the present moment with exuberance, too, out of gratitude and hope for what is to come – all in a spirit of thanksgiving.

Forward in Faith Prayer Heavenly Father, we thank you for all your blessings and

for what you enable us to accomplish at Sacred Heart. By your grace, may we move forward in faith, trusting

that you will supply our every need in Christ Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.

We pray through the intercession of Mary, our Mother. Amen.

Today’s readings seem to mirror last Sunday’s—the first reading praising Wisdom, and the gospel calling attention to the final judgment through a parable. The third servant in today’s gospel, though he sounds like he based his choices on something like wisdom, lacks wisdom. And the first servant, who took the greatest risk, and could therefore be seen as the most foolish, is revealed as the wisest. What is more, the third servant claims to have rooted his

‘wisdom’ in his knowledge of how severe the master is, he attempted to be wise “out of fear”. His feigned prudence is revealed to be even worse than mere foolishness—the master calls him wicked. What then are we to understand about the relationship between wisdom and fear? The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. The list is collapsed on the head of the third servant—he was given the gift, but he only had trust in himself, tried to remain blameless by giving the master nothing to blame him for. He never trusted in the one giving the gift, replacing wisdom with taking control, and fear of the Lord with fear itself. The secret to wisdom is trust in God, the gifts of the Holy Spirit at work within us. True wisdom is revealed to be trust and not risk management. True fear of the Lord is revealed to be loving reverence and not the fear of death.

How can you believe all this stuff? This is the number-one question Catholics get asked and, sometimes, we ask ourselves. Why do we believe that God exists, that he became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually his body? Join us for Faith, Food & Fellowship on Sundays during CCD as we read the book “Why We’re Catholic”. Classes are from 10:30 -11:15 during in the Social Hall,

Room 103. Books will be available for $4 at class or in the office. Whether you’re a Catholic looking to deepen your faith or you’re curious about the claims made by the Church, join us as we delve deeper in what we believe.

The next Baptism Preparation Class will be on Thursday, Dec 7, 2017 at 7:00pm. The Baptism Preparation Class is offered every other month for parents and godparents in the Church

Fellowship Room. Please read the requirements for baptizing your child. Registration is required. Please call the office to register. Child care will be provided.

Thursday Lunch & Scripture has returned! We hope you can join us for our Thursday Lunch and Scripture study on the Acts of the Apostles. Beginning September 14 from 11:30-12:30 in the Social Hall. Books are available for $15.00 in the church office.

When you place God first in your life, you realize that everything you have is a gift from Him. You realize that your recovery is not dependent or based on material things, it is built upon your faith and your desire to follow Jesus Christ’s direction. It is through our actions, however, that we demonstrate to God and others the commitment we have to

our faith in Jesus Christ and our gratitude for what He has done in our lives. We demonstrate this by giving back the gifts we were given though carrying the message of Celebrate Recovery and though acts of stewardship. To learn more, please join us this Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the PAC cafeteria. Safe place, no mask, no judgement, complete confidentiality. Free child care provided.

COMPARTIENDO NUESTROS DONES
