April 3, 2016 Divine Mercy Sunday

Divine Mercy Feast

A God of Mercy or a God of Justice

On the feast of the Annunciation in 1936, the Blesses Virgin Mary spoke these words to St. Faustina; You

must make known His (Jesus’) Mercy and prepare the world for His Second Coming. He will then come, not

as a Merciful Savior, but as a Just Judge. Oh how terrible is that day...speak to the souls of His great Mercy

while there is still time.

Jesus revealed to St. Faustina that He wished a Feast be established to celebrate His

Divine Mercy, saying, “The souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Com-

munion (on that day) shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.”

In order to receive an abundance of graces that day, the individual must:

Trust in His Mercy, Venerate the Image of Divine Mercy, Perform at least one act of

mercy everyday, either in word, deed, or prayer.

The opportunity to receive the grace of a “second baptism” is offered only on Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus

stated to St. Faustina; Before I come as a Just Judge, I first open wide the door of My Mercy. He who refuses

to pass through the door of My Mercy must pass through the door of My Justice.

Bishop Jensen will celebrate Mass for the Solemnity of the Divine Mercy on Sunday,

April 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

12:10 - 3:00 PM Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

2:00 - 3:00 PM Confession

3:00 PM Chaplet of Divine Mercy followed by a Solemn Mass

POPE FRANCIS

Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catechesis for this Holy Year of Mercy, we now conclude our treatment of the Old

Testament with a consideration of Psalm 51, the Miserere. This Psalm is traditionally seen as King David’s prayer for forgiveness

following his sin with Bathsheba. Its opening words: “Have mercy on me, O God in your kindness”, are a moving confession of sin,

repentance and confident hope in God’s merciful pardon. Together with a heartfelt plea to be cleansed and purified of his sin, the

Psalmist sings the praise of God’s infinite justice and holiness. He asks for the forgiveness of his great sin but also for the gift of a

pure heart and a steadfast spirit, so that, thus renewed, he may draw other sinners back to the way of righteousness. God’s

forgiveness is the greatest sign of his infinite mercy. Through the prayers of Mary, Mother of Mercy, may we become ever more

convincing witnesses to that divine mercy which forgives our sins, creates in us a new heart, and enables us to proclaim God’s

reconciling love to the world.

I greet the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today’s Audience, including those from England, Ireland, Norway,

Nigeria, Australia, Indonesia, Pakistan and the United States. In the joy of the Risen Lord, I invoke upon you and your families the

loving mercy of God our Father. May the Lord bless you all!

Diocesan Youth Conference 2016

Registration for the 2016 DYC: The Ascent is now open for all those in Grades 7-12! You can register online at www.dycpgdiocese.eventbrite.ca. The fee is now $60. The Diocesan Youth Conference is a packed weekend adventure filled with dynamic talks, workshops, games, adoration, praise and wor-ship, and a coffeehouse featuring artists from across our diocese as part of an evening celebration. This year, our theme is ‘The Ascent’. The Christian journey often feels like a tough climb, but we hope young people will leave ready to take on every mountain. With the help of Face2Face Ministries, we will unpack that which is most central and basic to the Catholic Christian faith.

Pope Francis recently wished young people a “good journey of discernment.” “For each one of us,” he said, the Lord has his

vocation, that place He wants us to live our lives.” But, the Pope continued, “we must seek it, find it; and then, continue in it,

always going onward.”
