The Enthronement of The Sacred Heart of Jesus In France in 1675, Jesus promised to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque that He will bless the home in which an image of His
Sacred Heart is exposed and honored.
This promise has been fulfilled many times and in many places since then.
For this reason, Sacred Heart Cathedral would like to invite you and your family to participate in the Enthronement of
The Sacred Heart of Jesus.
This a ceremony in which an image of the Sacred Heart is enthroned in a prominent place as a sign that Jesus is the King,
friend and brother of the family. It is also an act of reparation for the widespread ignorance of Christ, the main cause of
the evils that plague us today.
The importance of this ceremony is found in the promises that Jesus said he will accomplish in our homes and lives. To
invite Jesus and Mary into our homes takes on greater meaning today in these troubled times and becomes a source of
daily devotion and grace. If you are interested in taking part in this awesome grace or would like more information.
For those who are interested, we will make available a sign up sheet in the foyer next Sunday.
POPE FRANCIS GENERAL AUDIENCE
Wednesday, 1st February 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catechesis on Christian hope, today we turn to the earliest writing of the New
Testament, Saint Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians. The Apostle writes to confirm this young Christian community in its faith
in Christ’s death and resurrection, but he also speaks of the meaning of this mystery for the life of each believer. For Christ is the first
fruits of the future resurrection. Before the mystery of death, and the loss of our loved ones, we Christians are challenged to hope
more firmly in the Lord’s promise of eternal life. Paul tells the Thessalonians to wear the hope of salvation like a helmet (1 Thess 5:8),
in the knowledge that, because Christ is risen, the object of our hope is certain. Christian hope, then, is a way of life; we live daily in
expectation of the resurrection. In that same hope, and in the communion of the Church, we pray too that those who have gone before
us will live for ever in Christ. Let us ask the Lord to strengthen us in the sure expectation that one day we will be united with him,
and all our loved ones, in the joy of the resurrection.

What is the Guardian Angel Fund?
The Guardian Angel Fund is a donation-giving opportunity for Sacred Heart Parishioners to support Sacred
Heart School. The monies that are collected each year from generous people like you, are used to help
subsidize needy families that want Catholic Education for their children but can not afford tuition fees. Our tuition fees
are $250.00 a month for a single child and $360.00 for a family. We wanting to keep the tuition fees as low as possible,
but yet remaining consistent with our other Catholic Schools in the city, we rely on the tuition monies to pay for the
capital and operational costs in caring for our school community. As a Parish and School Catholic community we are
very grateful to all those that help support our school community in time, talent and treasure so the Catholic faith can be
taught and spread in our community.
If you would like to give the gift of Catholic education for a family, please call me at the school: 250-563-5201
If you would like to anonymously donate to our school tuition subsidy fund and receive a tax receipt, please come see
me at Sacred Heart School.
In gratitude,
Ms. Rebecca Gilbert, BA, BEd, MEd.
Principal of Sacred Heart School
The February School Mass took place on Friday, February 3rd which was the feast of St. Blaise. Traditionally, on this
day the throats of the faithful are blessed. This recalls the story of St. Blaise saving a young boy who had a fish bone
lodged in his throat. This Mass was hosted by Mme. Lizotte and the Grade Three/Four students.
B.C. Catholic Education Week 2017 will begin on Sunday, February 5th with a Parish/School Mass which will be
co-hosted by Sacred Heart School. There are a number of other events planned to mark this special time in the school
year. These include Assemblies, Winter Olympics, Valentine/100th Day Primary Rotation, Skiing, Skating and Acts of
Kindness Day. We are greatly looking forward to a wonderful celebration!
Sacred Heart Gala tickets are available for purchase at our school office. The tickets are now $50 each. The theme this
year is: "The Great Outdoors". The gala is planned for Saturday, February 25th, 2017.
Three healthy activities are currently in full swing at Sacred Heart School. The Jump Rope for Heart program
will continue for two weeks. The annual skating program is also underway. Our basketball program for older students
has begun with training sessions and challenge games.
Sacred Heart School is delighted to announce that it will stage "A Thousand Cranes" in May, 2017. This play is based on
the life of Sadako Sasaki who survived the Hiroshima atom bomb only to fall victim to radiation sickness ten years later.
Sadako learned that if she folded one thousand paper cranes, her wishes would be granted. Our rehearsals will begin
later in January. A Sunday school in Japan will participate in our production by making paper cranes containing
messages of peace. They plan to send the cranes in the late spring.
Sacred Heart School is accepting registrations for Kindergarten and other grades for September, 2017. If you would like
to give your child the gift of a Catholic Education, please visit our informative website or call the school office at
250-563-5201.
