Economic Development1. Revitalize commercial corridors as vital assets thatoffer tremendous revitalization opportunities for retail,commercial, and housing.2. Focus resources on key infill and major developmentprojects to create jobs, improve quality of life and builda sustainable local economy.3. Education
1. Increase third grade reading proficiency by focusingon early learning programs and results-basedinterventions. Only 37% of third graders are reading atgrade level in Sacramento.2. Improve retention rates by increasing basic skillscompetencies in reading, writing, and math to improvestudent preparedness for degree, certificate courses,and employment.3. Support and improve college and career readinessprograms.

Total population is 127,893
Poverty rate is 34%
Unemployment is18.84%
Life expectancy for residents in the PromiseZone is 72 years verses 79 outside the zone
Health1. Increase adoption of comprehensive approaches toimprove community design that supports physicalactivity by influencing City and County general andspecific plans that impact the Promise Zone2. Increase opportunities for physical activity throughshared use agreements between municipalities, schooldistricts and community based organizations by
targeting schools in the Promise Zone.3. Implement strategies to translate and integrate knowncommunity health interventions into usual clinical careapproaches to address high blood pressure and highcholesterol for Promise Zone residents.
Sustainable Community Revitalization1. Strengthen community capacity to address ganginvolvement and create safe neighborhoods, especiallyfor boys and men of color residing in the Promise Zone.2. Increase housing types and transit growth to promotelivability and connectivity within the Promise Zone.
The application was submitted by the Housing Authority of Sacramento County and will be administered by the SacramentoHousing and Redevelopment Agency and implemented with, the City of Sacramento, County of Sacramento and over 30
partners actively engaged in supporting the goals of the Promise Zone.
