Resort InformationSaas Fee is one of our favourite resorts, a high altitude, traditional traffic free village sitting at 1800m in a dramatic mountain setting. The surrounding glaciers ensure that skiing is available for ten months a year, while the village offers rustic Swiss charm in a fantastic location only a short distance from the world famous ski resort, Zermatt.

Saas Fee is a classic Alpine village with narrow streets lined with old chalets, traditional barns set on stones, a church and a mountain guide office. Unlike many of Europe’s mega-resorts this village has a fabulous atmosphere in both summer and winter, and serves as the perfect “small is beautiful” option for it’s busier neighbour.

The resort boasts a huge selection of good restaurants, traditional tea houses and shops. Saas Fee also has a great après ski scene, which starts in the snow bars near the lifts and ends with live music in Popcorn or in buzzing bars, like Poison.

Getting thereSaas Fee is about two and a half hours drive from Geneva, Milan, or Zurich. As it is a car-free resort all visitors park at the entrance to the village and take an electric taxi to their chalet or walk five or ten minutes.

Alternatively you could take the express train train from Zurich or Geneva and then the post bus up from Visp.

Restaurant: du Saas FeeThis charming stube is one of the smallest restaurants in Saas Fee, and only has two long tables and a 20 person capacity. It’s one of the most authentic ways to enjoy fondue in the Swiss Alps, and it has a friendly atmosphere and a cosy feel thoughout the restaurant. Be sure to book in advance, because the place is very popular and there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to get in.

Restaurant/Hotel: Waldhotel FletschhornOne of the smaller, boutique hotels in Saas Fee, this is an excellent place to stay during a visit to the resort while also offering michelin star cuisine in the excellent restaurant. The fletschhorn restaurant is one of the best in Saas Fee, and it’s definitely worth booking a table to eat there while in the area.

Winter Saas Fee is an incredibly popular winter sports resort, and sees the World Snowboard championships in November and the World Ice-climbing championships in January each year.

With most of the skiing between 2500m and 3500m, skiing is possible throughout the year. The lifts are open from July, right through autumn until the end of April. If you like ski touring then this is the perfect place for you to put on your skins, and take a guide to discover the fantastic back country.

Saas Fee is a good choice for non-skiers too, as there are plenty of marked winter walks, as well as husky dog sledding, tobogganing, ice skating, curling and a superb indoor sports centre with a pool and saunas.

The resort also has ambitious plans to replace old lifts and to expand the ski area. This would involve a link to neighbouring Saas Grund in the valley which will greatly improve the size and variation of available slopes.

SummerSaas Fee is a genuine Swiss village, and with summer skiing on the glaciers where most of the international ski teams train, the resort is busy ten months a year. Unlike some of the bigger European resorts, the bars, shops and restaurants in Saas Fee also remain open during the Autumn.

As well as its fantastic summer skiing, the Saas Valley has a wide variety of summer activities for young and old, including 350km of hiking paths, mountain-biking, tennis, mini-golf, trampoline, pétanque, trekking on horseback, scooters, and climbing.

Saas Fee also has a rope challenge in the forest, a children’s roller coaster (the Feeblitz) and a children’s clubs with organised activities that will keep families busy during the summer months. The public swimming pool and sports facilities are excellent, while at the foot of the ski slopes are football pitches, tennis courts and a small golf course.
