St. Lawrence Catholic ChurchStatement of Revenues and ExpensesFor Month Ended September 30, 2017

-------------------Year To Date-------------------------

To the St. Lawrence Parish Family,

The St. Lawrence Parish Finance Council is pleased to report the financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. We welcome Maria Simon as the Parish’s new Coordinator of Finance and thank Janet Volion for her years of service.

Thank you for your continued support of our parish. Your time, talent and treasure are what makes St. Lawrence the great parish that it is. This fiscal year’s offertory has started out similar to last year. Offertory is 1.6% under budget vs. 2% under budget last year. This year’s actual is about $2,500 more than last year. The chart, which compares first quarter actual offertory to budget over the last five years, illustrates the growth rate of offertory over time. Fiscal year 2015 was exceptional as it included an extra week and actual collec-tions exceeded budget, the only time that has happened. Preschool attendance is up again this year, accounting for the positive budg-et variance. The garage sale generated over $22,000 which is up $1,000 from last year. On the down side, your pledge payments to this year’s Archbishop’s Annual Appeal have not reached our Archdiocesan target, unlike the last four years. Outstanding pledge bal-ances exceed $130,000. Paying your outstanding pledge balance by end of December is critical as we have budgeted $100,000 of the refund to pay for operating expenses not covered by offertory. Even though the Debt Reduction collection is down compared to last year, we have been able to save over $12,000 in interest and shorten our mortgage three months. Please note that the September Debt Reduction collection was sent to the Archdiocese in October which accounts for the difference between the collection and amount applied to the mortgage.

Overall, expenses are tracking slightly under budget, which is not unusual for the first quarter as most parish activities are ramping up from the summer. Most of the variances are timing differences between when expenses are actually paid versus budgeted. We also established Music as a new department this year, separating it from Liturgy. Rectory is over budget due to the cost of a new roof. This project will be paid from the Capital Reserve Account, but the funds had not been transferred by end of September. The transfer out of Capital Reserve for the new roof is offset by a contribution to Capital Reserve of $10,100.

Having just completed our annual stewardship renewal period, our financial results reflect the treasure and time components of Time, Talent and Treasure. It is important to note that our expenses reflect the time and talent components in that we have volunteers per-forming many parish activities including reception, sacristans, registration, and faith formation that we would otherwise have to hire staff to perform. We thank our volunteers for their contribution of time and talents, an invaluable gift that makes St. Lawrence special.

Again, thank you for your support of St. Lawrence. If you have any questions please let me know. David Wilkins St. Lawrence Parish Finance Council Chairman 770-237-0926

Around the Parish

Toiletries Collection The homeless in Gwinnett and the Living Room appreci-ate your hotel items. Leave your dona-tions for Sister Louise at the Welcome Desk.

As we enter into a New Liturgical Year, we look forward to two events that will be highlights of our parish life:

+ The February 3rd Ordination to the Diaconate of Rick Hogan, Pete Ranft and David Schreckenberger. + The 10th Anniversary of the Dedication of our beautiful Sanctuary on October 29.

In commemoration of these events in 2018, I am asking generous parishioners to consider a memorial gift to the parish: a beauti-ful matching set of Sacred Vestments for Priest and Deacons – in violet, since that is the color used for Lent and Adven . Some may not know that the proper vesture for a Deacon at Mass is not only the Stole worn diagonally over one shoulder, but over this is supposed to be a tunic – called a “Dalmatic.” (The priest’s vestment worn over his stole is called a “Chasuble.”) The only Dalmatics we have at St. Lawrence are in white: none in green, red, violet or rose. If you would like a loved one or an event remembered embroidered into the inside color of these 3 vestments, please consider this opportunity. Fr. John has selected a violet set from the Holy Rood Guild, and each of the 3 (1 Chasuble and 2 Dalmatics) run just shy of $1,500.00 each. (Yes, handmade dignified and noble Sacred Vestments, worthy of the Paschal Mystery we celebrate in our Sacred Liturgies, have great worth! To the right is a picture of the Chasuble and the Dalmatic. (Sorry, professional model is not included! – just the vestment!)

Senior Adult Ministry will meet for lunch on Wednesday, December 20 at Olive Garden on Scenic Highway. Call Sister Louise for reservations at 678.240.3063.

Divorced? Hurting? Recovering from Divorce Group Starting Tuesday January 9, 7:00-9:00 p.m. St. Lawrence is offering the 13-week divorce support pro-gram, Recovering from Divorce for Catholics. Some of the topics covered include: grieving, fear, anger, dealing with your former spouse, helping your kids cope, the power of your faith to heal, and being single again. This program is for Catholics who are going through a divorce or are struggling with life after divorce. $15.00 covers the cost of the program and all materials. Childcare provided. For more information please plan to attend a one-hour information session on December 19 at 3:00 p.m. in De Sales Hall. Please contact Kathy Fanning at [email protected].

Woman of the Year nomination forms are available in the literature rack in the main hall or at the Welcoming Window. This is the time to nominate those wom-en who do so much for our parish and community. Please return the forms to the parish office by Sunday, January 7. Contact Rosanne Larkins, 770.995.1680, [email protected] or Karol Gaines 770.962.6314 for more infor-mation.

St. Lawrence's Festival of the Nativities is This Weekend. Satur-day from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come and join in the festivities!

The Welcoming Committee will meet this Monday, December 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Cogswell Hall. If you are interested in joining our efforts to extend hospitality and fellowship to new members of the parish, please come.

Care Packages We are sending care packages to our military members and would appreciate any of the following donations: beef jerky, gum, non-chocolate bags of candy, sunflower seeds, chap stick, pre-packages cook-ies. Donations can be dropped off at the welcome window. Please contact Lori Crocker with questions at [email protected]. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!

Prayer Ministry Training All those cur-rently in one of our prayer ministries and others who wish to pray with and for others are asked to come to our Prayer Ministry Training Tuesday, De-cember 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Cogswell Hall.
