I undertook an exchange semester in China, at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Moving to a country where English was not the main language was initially frightening, however it taught me a lot about how to adapt.

Set-up costs
You will need to allow AU$3,000–$5,000 to cover establishment expenses, such as bond payment, rent in advance, furniture and household items.
Some student apartments come fully furnished, but private rental accommodation often does not.
Ongoing expenses will vary according to your lifestyle and choice of accommodation. It is more expensive to live on your own than to share with others.

Research opportunities
RMIT offers research programs at two levels: masters by research and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The duration to complete a masters by research is two years full-time and a PhD is four years. We are focused on clusters of multidisciplinary research and innovation capabilities and our candidates are supervised by active researchers in our schools and research centres.

Our college and school-based research centres and groups have a national impact in their specialist areas. When I successfully completed my masters degree, I looked for a supervisor who could accept my research topic of the role of IT in ADHD treatment. I found a few, but chose RMIT because of my supervisor’s knowledge in the field of e-health and RMIT’s location, facilities and services. Internal pathways
RMIT offers different levels of study that can help you get the qualification you want.
You can improve your English language skills by studying one of RMIT’s English language programs or choosing to study VCE, which is our Year 12 high school certificate, or Foundation Studies to help you get the marks you need and prepare you for success at university.
Alternatively, you may need to start with a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma. These are called ‘Vocational Education’ programs, because they are hands-on, job-focused and prepare you for work.

¡ The program and fees information in this publication applies to students commencing programs between 1 January and 31 December 2019.
¡ All fees are quoted in Australian dollars (AU$) and apply to RMIT University’s Australian campuses only.
¡ RMIT’s application fee is non-refundable, but will be credited to your tuition fee deposit once you accept your offer and commence your program.

¡ Fees are held constant for each calendar year and RMIT may increase program fees by an amount that will not exceed 7.5 per cent each year (subject to rounding). RMIT international coursework scholarships
Scholarships are offered across all levels of study, from Pre-university to Masters by coursework. Scholarships are for high-calibre students and vary in value and duration. They can be based on citizenship or program of study.
RMIT international research scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to international students undertaking PhDs on the basis of academic excellence and research potential. The scholarship covers tuition fees, the cost of Overseas Student Health Cover and a stipend to cover living costs.
Australia Awards
These prestigious international scholarships and fellowships are funded by the Australian Government. The values vary but often cover full tuition fees, a stipend, Introductory Academic Program, Overseas Student Health Cover insurance costs and other expenses including supplementary academic support and travel. RMIT has a dedicated team providing support for Australia Awards students.

My studies were supported by a scholarship grant from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance called LPDP. The objective of this grant is to provide the public an opportunity for postgraduate study abroad and return to help develop Indonesia. Melbourne actually has the highest number of LPDP awardees, so automatically having 100 plus friends upon arrival in Melbourne made it easier for me to adjust.

Students are granted a student visa subject to several conditions. Students must:
¡ maintain enrolment in a CRICOS-registered program
¡ complete their program within the expected program duration based on a full-time load unless extenuating circumstances exist
¡ maintain visa eligibility such as education level, academic progress and attendance
¡ keep RMIT notified of their address and any change of address within seven days
¡ maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the full duration of their student visa

RMIT is one of the biggest facilitators of design practice in Melbourne, and RMIT and the design industry are closely tied together. I already had a foundation in design but this degree enabled me to nurture it.
The program enhanced my knowledge, exposed me to different perspectives and pushed me out of my comfort zone, enabling me to do work that is creative but still has application in the real world.

I’ve worked in content creation for six years, publishing hundreds of articles, blog posts and press releases online. I felt that I could still improve my writing and editing skills, though, and this drive to achieve excellence led me to complete my Master of Writing and Publishing at RMIT.
I researched RMIT extensively and found that the University is multicultural, staff are easy to approach and you get hands-on experience of the publishing industry. The highlight of my studies was the chance to work with SEEK Ltd on an industry-sponsored project. It was an excellent way to get the look and feel of the industry before actually starting to work in it.
There is the option to choose from a range of electives or take a specialisation. The specialisations are relatively harder compared to the electives so if you want to make your masters more challenging then choose a specialisation.

I never thought there were opportunities to work as a teacher in such unique learning environments. It came as a surprise to me to be able to work as a teacher at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been attracted to the world of tech – especially any and all things computer related – so I showed up with a relentless desire to learn and make a difference in the world. It’s a career path I’m passionate about and RMIT has made sure I’m surrounded by passionate people.
It’s not uncommon to see me studying at odd hours of the night in many of RMIT’s lab facilities. I spend so much time in them it’s almost as if it’s my second home! That’s what happens when you love your course and your university provides the facilities that let you immerse yourself completely.

When I was looking for universities in Australia offering a masters degree in environmental engineering, RMIT stood out with some exciting courses such as water treatment engineering and advanced technologies for wastewater reclamation infrastructure.
Case studies used for projects in class help simulate industry experience as they are real-world problems. An example includes working on the optimisation of the wastewater treatment plant at Werribee.
These subjects and experience all relate to the career path I hope to follow, and contribute to my aims of improving the environment in my country.
Lizard Island field project and Vietnam project
RMIT students have the opportunity to undertake practical field work at the Lizard Island Research Station, 270 kilometres north of Cairns. Students get the opportunity to learn how to conduct surveys in real-life conditions, by collecting data, identifying species, and monitoring environmental changes.
Final year environment students can take a two-week intensive field research project in Vietnam where they investigate urban development and provide sustainability recommendations to local non-profit organisations and government agencies.

When I was completing my Master of Science (MSc), I became deeply concerned about the human and economic costs that followed building collapses in Ghana. I found that structural failure is an under-researched area in Ghana, and most of the inquiries were skewed towards technical explanations. With my interdisciplinary background, I suspected that there could be more to the problem.
I saw RMIT Global Cities Research Institute’s Human Security and Disasters in Cities program, and it became clear that my research aligns well with the program’s focus, and I would receive exceptional supervision to conduct my research.
I’m hopeful that my study will provide a better understanding of how building collapse incidents emerge from the socioeconomic, cultural and institutional forces underpinning the design, construction, utilisation and adaptation of buildings in cities.

Centre for Innovative Justice The Centre for Innovative Justice was launched in March 2013 with former Attorney-General of Victoria and Deputy Premier Rob Hulls appointed Inaugural Director.
The mission of the Centre is to research, develop, teach and promote innovative ways of delivering justice. The Centre is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to complex problems and developing practical ways to improve the justice system.
Students are provided with practical exposure to the process of law reform to equip them to use their legal training to advocate for and achieve change. Students gain insight into the daily work of courts and tribunals by shadowing lawyers, magistrates, judges and tribunal members.

Laboratory Technician at Clinpath Laboratories
The Master of Biotechnology at RMIT offered an excellent course structure and in my last semester I completed a six-month intensive internship at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in the Department of Allergy and Immunology.
Through this internship, I gained experience in lung function measurement, models of lung inflammation, image analysis and assay optimisation. I also managed to become proficient in reading and understanding scientific literature and data analysis.
My studies at RMIT enabled me to gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills and the confidence to work in any kind of lab.
