ABOUT S1 S1 is a global helmet brand rooted in California's rich Skateboarding, Longboarding, BMX and Roller Derby culture. Today, S1 designs and markets an extensive line of protective helmets through Skate, Longboard, BMX and Roller Derby specialty retailers in America, Canada, South America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. S1 Helmet Co. is independently owned and operated. MESSAGE FOR 2013 Wear a CPSC certified helmet. Some of the top Skate and BMX pros have suffered traumatic brain injuries while wearing the soft foam non-certified helmets. There has also been alot of reports about Roller Derby participants getting severe concussions in non-certified helmets. We have been spreading the message that non-certified helmets will not protect your head adaquately in the case of a solid slam. Soft foam non-certified helmets have been marketed as “multiple impact” helmets by some companies but they do not pass any helmet tests. In our opinion, the soft foam non-certified helmets should be marketed as “minimal impact” helmets because the soft foam helmets cannot pass the ASTM or CPSC test. BETTER / SAFER HELMETS We designed the S1 Kid Helmet and the S1 Lifer Helmet to fit nice and low on the dome and to pass both the ASTM and CPSC Helmet safety tests. We highly recommend that all riders wear either the S1 Kid Helmet or the S1 Lifer Helmet. The graph below explains the difference between the S1 Lifer Helmet and the non-certified skate helmets. We want everyone to understand that the soft foam non-certified helmets cannot pass the ASTM or CPSC test and will not protect your head as well as a CPSC certified helmet.
