*These open spaces connect the corridor to and signify the entrance into Hillsboro Village and onto Magnolia Boulevard. Enhancements might include a distinctive gateway feature and wayfinding signage that improves overall mobility.
The master plan for St. Bernard Park proposes walkways, site furnishings, landscaping, trellises, and the conversion of an existing stormwater detention pond into tiered raingardens. In addition, the plan is designed to accommodate the installation of public art and sculpture.
Phase I of implementation has been completed and includes most of the infrastructure and basic landscape components of the master plan. Implementation of future phases is dependent on funding.
Some areas identify with having significant stormwater concerns due to the existing topography, lack of infrastructure, or man-made site conditions. Redevelopment along these sites should address overall stormwater quality and management through best design practices.
Portions of the 440 Greenway are currently under construction with Phase I from Centennial to Elmington Parks complete. Future segments of the 440 Greenway are envisioned to extend 7 miles, link 6 parks, create new green spaces and reconnect 14 diverse, historic neighborhoods divided by the interstate.
Although this segment is still in concept, oppportunities to connect neighborhoods along 21st Avenue with the future segment should be evaluated.
In general, the streetscape along 21st Avenue South should promote a walkable and inviting atmosphere with added shade trees. Opportunities to increase the tree canopy and establish a center median should be evaluated.
