ST. MARY CATHEDRAL LANSING, MICHIGAN

POTLUCK The St. Mary Wednesday night potlucks are every Wednesday night at 6pm in the Parish Hall. The pot-lucks have been a great way to share a meal and social-ize/get to know fellow parishioners. All you need to do to attend is to bring a dish to pass, your own table service and $2 if you wish (for the main dish that the cooking team has provided). The cooking teams provide a main dish item as well as beverages. Come join us for the Wednesday night potlucks - you’ll be glad you did! If you would like more information on this or would like to help, please contact Mike or Terri Hecksel at 482-3196.

Annual Mission Appeal Next week we have our annual Mission Appeal. We will be hearing about the Foundation for Children in Need. Specifically, this group works with needy children in Southern India, providing education and the other neces-sities of life. Mr. Tom Chitta will be at all the Masses to talk with us about his mission work. There will be a sec-ond collection after Communion. To learn more about the Mission Appeal, you can go to YouTube and search for Foundation for Children in Need. They have several short videos that describe their mission well. Sabbatical As you know I am scheduled to be on a sabbatical start-ing in a few weeks. The timing of course is not great. When I get to a new place, I like to dive in and be there for a while, if for no other reason than we can get used to each other. Unfortunately this sabbatical was planned and approved long before any of us knew that I would be coming here. I realize that it does extend our transition period with each other. Forgive me. I do believe I will be able to serve you even better once I return. What will I be doing? Beginning August 16, I will take two weeks to catch up with family and friends around the country who I have not seen in over a year. On Septem-ber 3, I will fly to Rome and begin the formal sabbatical program. You can go to: www.pnac.org to see what I will be doing. Click on: Institute for Continuing Theo-logical Education, it is at the bottom of the page. At the new page, you can scroll down and see Fall 2017 Mod-ules. I will be participating in Modules 1 and 3. During the time of the second module I will be in Spain and join-ing a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I have never been to the Holy Land and thought this would be a good time. At the conclusion of the third module, I plan to return to the U.S. just before Thanksgiving and will formally get back to my life here on Tuesday, November 28. A three month sabbatical is offered to the priests of dio-cese for every ten years they are ordained. I just cele-brated in June my twentieth anniversary and thought it would be a good time to get away, get refreshed, and to celebrate the gift of priesthood and the many ways God has unfolded that gift over the years. Please keep these details and the whole three months in your prayers. You are in my prayers. Fr. Karl Pung
