Saint Theresa Liturgy and Life speaker series presents

“Liturgy and Motherhood in the Domestic Church” by Alexis Kutarna

Thursday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.

in the School Library

What can we learn from the Sacred Liturgy, and how do we welcome it into

our home? How does the Catholic liturgical imagination inspire us to pursue

a deeper relationship with Christ in our family life?

Alexis Kazimira Kutarna has been

involved in church music ever since she was a child. Alexis earned the Master of Arts in Liturgy at The Liturgical Institute at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/

Mundelein Seminary, where she wrote her thesis on “The Sacramental Nature of Sacred Music.” She holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in music, as well as a Performer’s Certificate. She has a special

interest in the spirituality of liturgical music, and was privileged to study chant with Fr. Columba Kelly, OSB. She has

served as a parish music and liturgy director and organist, working with

singers of all ages.

Ms. Kutarna teaches courses on the liturgy, liturgical music, and Gregorian

chant at the University of St. Thomas for the seminary, the permanent diaconate

program, and the Master of Sacred Music program. She serves as the Director of

Music at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston. Her most important vocation is

as wife and mother: Alexis and her husband Jim have two beautiful

daughters, and are parishioners at Saint Theresa’s.

Discovering Love with Clarity

Lent is a good time to explore the Catholic faith.

If you are seventeen years of age or older and are: unbaptized, baptized in another faith community, or a baptized Catholic who has never received your First Holy Communion, then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is for you!

The next Inquiry Gathering will be

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Family Life

Center. You may begin the process at any time during the year. Free babysit-ting is available upon request. Bring your

spouse or friend, if you’d like. These informal gatherings are structured to

answer your questions about the Catholic Church. The RCIA team is ready to walk

your journey of faith with you.

Contact Lynda Knoche at 281-450-1400 or by e-mail: [email protected].

If you, your child or someone you know is between the ages of seven and sixteen, not baptized or baptized in another faith com-munity, we have an RCIA process suited to your age group. Inquiry sessions are every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Please

schedule an appointment with Paul Stoes-sel via phone (281-494-1156) or e-mail

([email protected]) prior to attending your first session.

Q: What happens at a session for the elect? A: During the Period of Purification and Enlightenment, the elect continue to be dis-missed from the Eucharist to reflect on the Scriptures. The pastor, catechist, sponsors, and other involved with them provide more and varied opportunities to engage in prayer (such as celebrations of the Word, Liturgy of the Hours, contemplative prayer, or a retreat). In addition, the sessions might include time to prepare for the scrutinies, the presentation of the Creed and Lord’s Prayer, and time after those rituals to reflect on them. This period is one for spiritual preparations rather than for-mal instruction. Timothy A. Johnston. ©2017 Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications. All rights reserved.

From the time of Barnabas escorting Saul to the apostles (Acts 9:26-27), Christians have given wit-ness for those seeking baptism or reception into the

full communion of the Catholic Church. Today, RCIA sponsors, team and community members give

testimony concerning readiness for initiation. Leonardo He is very happy in his faith he has learned so much about Jesus that he didn't know. He identi-fies with Jesus as the good shepherd. Being Catho-lic is a great thing in his life. He loves the mass and the friends he has made in the RCIA process. He is excited about baptism and he wants to get rid of his sins. His mother says he prays more when he has trouble and prays for others. He is so much happier since he became a part of our church com-munity. Brandon He feels accepted by God now. At first he thought God was a ghost, but as he continued to hear the word of God he knows the real truth. He is the creator spirit. "I thought he didn't exist", he said but now knows Jesus opened the doors to heaven. He prays and feels God's presence. He says God is with him everywhere he goes. He is excited about baptism and being able to receive the Eucharist. He puts more effort into his schoolwork and tries not to bug his brother so much. Cole He has changed how he thinks of school since he has been in RCIA. He no longer settles for 70% in his school work. He works harder and studies harder. He is more appreciative of his teachers and knows they are trying to help him. He is seeing God now in everything, He feels God speaking to him in the things that happened to him and in his day. He knows that God gives second chances. He now trusts and believes in God more. He still misses his mom but being Catholic helps. He want to receive the sacraments so he can totally be ac-cepted into the church and into the kingdom of God. Ashleigh At first Jesus was just in heaven. She says "I didn't know he came down." She used to go to other Christian churches but felt something was not right. “I came to RCIA class to find out the truth, it wasn't fake love, it was real that he came down from heaven and died for my sins. When I feel down and everything is against me I can turn to Jesus, he is with me and I pray to him”. She can't wait to experience being baptized since hearing

the testimony of Edwin, who was baptized and witnessed to what he experienced. She feels the desire to experience Jesus in the sacraments also. She now prays and ask God's guidance for every part of her life. Parker He has embraced the cross in his understanding of Jesus and his rising from the dead. He has developed a deeper understanding of hope. He feels sadness when he has trouble and worries. But then, Jesus speaks to him and shows him what he did wrong and tells him the right thing to do. He has a heart that is filled with hope and open to receive the sacraments. He loves being Catholic. Baylie She is ready to commit to a life as a Catholic. She feels God calling her to help others in his church. Since joining church it has changed how she sees others at school. She helps new students to find their way and be comfortable. She buys lunches when she notices that some students aren't buying lunch. Her mother has noticed how she has grown nurturing others. Her heart has opened she goes above and be-yond to help others who are less fortunate. Her faith has grown hearing the words of our Savior. She is excited about her future with Christ. Alysa Has a special place in her heart for our Lady of Guadalupe. You see the joy on her face as she thinks and talks about her. Her mother has com-mented on how she helps more around the house with the chores. She has a growing com-passion for others and helps them when she sees they are having trouble. She is filled with joy at the prospect of receiving the Sacraments. She has an open trusting heart towards Jesus. She is so happy to be a Catholic. She has waited a long time with ups and downs. Mason Mason's mother has noticed the change in him such as his heart opening to his classmates and friends. He sees the good in others rather than the bad. He realizes that sin makes them not be kinder to others. He is becoming more con-cerned about those around him and how sin affects them. He loves belonging to the church. He wants to be baptized and receive the Sacra-ments. He has come to trust the word of God and the celebration of the Mass. Tristine She was very quiet in spirit when she started this process. Her parents have noticed a change in her confidence on the way home from mass now. She lights up as they discuss what was said at mass and in class she says she feels more confident in what she has heard. This is giving her strength to speak more about Jesus. She is excited to receive the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist she especially feels his calls and his touch when she becomes quiet in prayer when she is being generous and kind to others. She feels his love. God is giving her strength

and courage. She is no longer as shy she feels she is becoming a new person. She is excited about receiving the sacraments as she knows she will grow even stronger. She loves the liturgy of the word at Mass. She feels God speaking to her and instructing her. Tabi Has a deep curiosity about the faith, the words of our Lord, hearing them in mass. Breaking open the word and what it means, is his favorite part of RCIA. He is learning to be like Christ. He loves the story of Mo-ses in the Old Testament. It speaks to him, calling him to believe in God when things get rough. He knows that he has to be strong like Moses when times are hard. He has a very tender heart towards his parents and siblings. He loves being a part of the church and takes very seriously being Catholic. He even encourages his parents and family to attend Sunday mass. He is excited about receiving the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist. His teachers notice his deep sense of doing what is right in the eyes of God. He will be a leader and protector of the church. Tita He loves learning about God. He listens closely to the words of God, he feels the words in his heart, and it makes him feel good and trust God more. He loves being Catholic. He breaks out in a big smile when we talk about his faith in the church. He is excited to become a Catholic with the big "C"
