Worldwide 1.100 billion lack access to potable water (WorldwatchInstitute).
Are We Running Out of Water? "If you run out of water, you run out of lives," reads an Uzbek. Some experts say that those words seem more prophetic than proverbial, as two million people -of which 90% are children-die each year from lack of clean water and adequate sanitation.
INTRODUCCIÓN4
INTRODUCTION ¿DE DÓNDE obtiene usted el agua?
Diane Raines Ward, autora
del libro Water Wars—Drought, Flood, Folly, and the Politics of Thirst (Guerras del agua:
WHERE DO you get water? Is it limited to open the tap and watch it run? Or, as in many places, you have to travel long distances, queuing and load a bucket of the precious liquid to your home? Does it take several hours to get water for washing and cooking? This is the situation in many regions of the planet. Diane Raines Ward, author of the book Water Wars-Drought, Flood, Folly, and the Politics of Thirst (Water Wars: Drought, floods, nonsense and politics of scarcity) indicates that 40% of the world population "includes the necessary water from wells, rivers, lakes or ponds. "In some countries, women spend up to six hours a day fetching water for their families in containers weighing more than 20 kilos (40 pounds).
In some areas of the world, water demand already exceeds existing reserves. The reason is obvious: much of humanity lives in arid or semiarid regions where the precious liquid missing for so long. According to the Institute of the Stockholm Environment, a third of the world population live in areas experiencing water shortage moderate to severe. Moreover, the increase in demand has exceeded more than twice the rate of population growth
Naciones Unidas Elizabeth Dowdeswell—. [...]
The reserves dwindle "One of the great contradictions [of] human nature [is] that only value things once they become scarce says Deputy General Secretary of the United Nations Elizabeth Dowdeswell-. [...] Appreciate the value of water when the well is dry. And not only wells are drying up in the traditional regions prone to drought, but also in areas not traditionally associate with water shortages. "
mundo.
"For survival, welfare and socio-economic development of all humanity is a fundamental requirement to have guaranteed access to an adequate supply of potable water. However, we continue to act as if fresh water was abundant and inexhaustible resource when it is not. "- Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations.
Today, the quantity and quality of fresh water on the planet are threatened as never before. So we should not get carried away by the apparent abundance of water that exists in some fortunate regions.
INTRODUCCION8
NOTICIAS XINHUA, CHINA).
Maybe it costs us believe that clean water is running out of mana if galore faucets our home and if we have a hygienic toilet cistern provided. But we must remember that only 20% of mankind enjoy such luxuries. In Africa, many women, who spend six hours a day to get water (not infrequently contaminated) - understand better the harsh reality: the clean drinking water is scarce and increasingly scarcer.
In 2007, some 47 million Chinese suffered shortages of drinking water as a result of the worst drought in a decade. Meanwhile, 42 million were affected by typhoons and floods 180,000,000 (XINHUA NEWS AGENCY, CHINA).
The reality is that more than a third of the world is plagued by a severe crisis in water and sanitation. Africa is particularly serious because 6 out of 10 people do not have adequate toilet, a fact which, according to the World Health Organization, contributes to "the transfer of bacteria, viruses and parasites found in human excreta which [. ..] can contaminate water resources, soil and food. This contamination is a major cause of diarrheal diseases (second cause of death in children in developing countries), including cholera, and leads to other major diseases such as schistosomiasis, and trachoma. "
Some call water "liquid gold" or "oil of the century". However, nations consume this precious commodity to such a degree that the main rivers just have something to pour into the sea. Evaporation and irrigation drink their banks, causing a considerable decrease in the rate of major rivers like the Colorado (USA), the Yangtze (China), the Indus (Pakistan), Ganges (India) and the Nile (Egypt). What has been done to alleviate the crisis? What is the ultimate solution?
INTRODUCTION 10
empeorando.
"One of the most alarming problems facing the world today is to get enough drinking water for all inhabitants of the planet. [...] Too often, where water is needed, so there are weapons. "(BAN KI-MOON, SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS).
The water problem in China, China has a serious problem with "water pollution and shortage of clean water." Almost all cities have sewage treatment plants, but many do not have the money to run them. "Most of the rivers, lakes and canals of the country are polluted due to both untreated discharges from industries and households, as runoff from cropland that are loaded with pesticides," reports The Wall Street Journal. And there's more: "300 million people lack clean drinking water available". As stated in this paper, the picture is "bleak" and the situation continues to worsen.
educación y techo (OFICINA REGIONAL DE PLAN INTERNACIONAL PARA ASIA, TAILANDIA)
In this decade, half of mas the 1,300 million Asian children not be met several of their basic needs such as clean water, food, medical care, education and shelter (REGIONAL OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PLAN FOR ASIA, THAILAND) needs
Severe water shortages "Unless urgent action is taken, by 2032 more than half of the world population is affected by water shortages, with serious health consequences," says BMJ (formerly British Medical Journal) . A UN study reveals that while the number of people who have drinking water "increased from 4.100 million in 1990-4900 million in 2000 and 5.700 million in 2010, there are nearly 1,700 million in developing countries still lacking it. In addition, 2,400 million people lack access to adequate sanitation ", causing" 4.000 million cases of diarrhea and 2.2 million deaths annually, "not to mention the suffering caused intestinal worms, schistosomiasis and trachoma.

o el beneficio de salud;
Among the aforementioned benefits “WATERPRESTO" such as: efficiency in water purificationand its practical use, we also have to mention:
The economic benefit in saving water;
the health benefit;
the productivity of the people, their welfare safety, quality food preparation, ease of use, availability of water in a time of scarcity of water, light, or temporary cut in the event of adisaster, without having to rely on water storage vessels which then has to be boiled.
ANÁLISIS COSTO-BENEFICIO27
ANALYSIS COST–BENEFIT
Families who have clean water and kept free of germs have fewer illnesses. The water will probably be drinking if it comes from a system of well constructed and maintained, or wells or springs clean pipes. However, if any of lakes, rivers and reservoirs or open wells is easy to be contaminated, but can be used by boiling it first; but sadly underdeveloped countries do not consider the potential danger of neglecting these basic requirements.
ANALYSIS COST–BENEFICIO28
pesticidas, fertilizantes y residuos industriales.
The effect on health and food How do people affect the water shortage? First, harms. Not that die of thirst, but the poor quality of the water used for drinking and cooking the sick. Elizabeth Dowdeswell indicates that "about 80% of all diseases and more than a third of all deaths in developing countries are caused by contaminated water." In semi-arid developing nations, water supplies are often contaminated with human and animal, pesticides, fertilizers and industrial waste feces. Poor families may have no choice but to use that water full of impurities.
