Sales Management CommentsAnother edition of this unique event to Southern Alberta is approaching. Not only unique, but established and reputable!

The largest group of cattle are from Ricochet Stock Farm and I can confidently say they are the best set ever offered to date. This cowherd is extremely impressive and is honestly under-rated in the industry simply because not enough people have seen it in its working form during the summer months. I’m one of the lucky ones that has and would relay an opinion that there is some “wow-factor” here when seeing these big bodied Fleckvieh cows raising some huge bull calves on the Southern Alberta terrain. The genetics are very intentional.

Okofleck, operated by Brian & Marty Miller and Ted Shacklady have grown a fantastic repeat customer base to their bull clientele. This isn’t just because they have a good product, they are “good guys” too and work with complete integrity and solid customer service.

The Imler’s MI Simmentals are offering a larger group of bred heifers than in the past. These have been sorted straight from their replace-ment group with the genetics and breeding dates considered to qualify them to the sale.

Parview Stock Farm is owned by the Parker Family and is just that - a family operated program. We have seen a graduated success pattern climbing for the Parview cattle since their 1st entry to Round Up several years ago. They have been “discovered” and for good reason! Vernon Properties have a larger string of bulls coming this year. This has always been a beautiful cowherd to tour, although not large on numbers, nor will it ever be, but high on quality. Strong genetics and cow families play a strong role in the DNA of the Vernon cattle.

Lanz Family DonationOn November 1 of this year, High River and the surrounding communities were devastated with the sudden passing of Brent Lanz of Cayley, AB. Brent was an active and very supportive member of Foothills Minor Hockey and other local organizations. Brent has served as a coach and trainer for many years with both the High River Minor Hockey and then with the Foothills Minor Hockey. Brent is survived by his wife Julile, his children Brandy, Britanie, a son Ryan, and numerous other family members.

Here’s the standout from the Fleckvieh bulls. Mr Walker 568C is an absolute tank on a moderate frame. His sire JB Windwalker has done everything and more that we have hoped for and the first 3 sons we sold last year averaged over $11,000! He’s double goggled, dark deep red, and heavily pigmented. Mr Walker is a deep bodied bull, very deep in the flank area while having a huge rear quarter…I’ve been told some call it an “Apple Butt”. A very serious herdsire prospect here.

Here’s an embryo calf out of the Rolling Hills Patricia cow who ranks as one of the all-time best Fleckvieh cows. Here’s a polled embryo calf out of our Gibby’s Nabriska cow and the female maker, Arnold’s Eveready bull. Our Walker calves continue to impress. After the success of the bull calves last year we have had a lot of inquires on if we have more sons this year. Due to our smaller herd size and having mostly heifers born last winter, our bull numbers are down but the quality is still very high. This guy was raised with his twin until mid July and still weaned off at a very impressive 830lbs at the first of September. He’s polled, deep bodied, loose hided and plain good. His full sister was our high selling female last fall going to Applecross Simmentals.

Once again we are bringing a very impressive set of sons from the KOP Trackerson bull. This guy is off our Josie donor cow who also happens to be a direct daughter of Black Joker. Here’s the standout of the black bulls. Performance best describes this guy. Weaning off at over a 1000lbs he’s continued to be the heavyweight of the pen. 626D has it all from a moderate frame, thickness, wide top, fantastic feet and the white stripe down his face that everybody wants. This bull is an absolute pet and is always looking for that scratch. Although his disposition is perfect, it made him very hard to picture in that he wouldn’t wake up to show off his best picture pose.

These Fleckvieh influenced SimAngus genetics have become very popular in the United States in that they combine the best of the Fleckvieh world and the Angus world. He’s deep flanked, has huge spring of rib and is showing off that “Fleckvieh Apple Butt” that the Walker sons are known for.
