Keep your own teeth and gums healthy Wipe baby’s mouth and gums with a clean, wet cloth or piece of gauze after feeding. When you can see the teeth, start using a small, soft toothbrush twice a day. Avoid fruit punches and other sweetened drinks in baby bottles, especially before bed. Use bottles for feeding not providing comfort. Don’t dip soothers in sugary substances. Germs spread. Don’t lick your baby’s soother, bottle or anything that goes in their mouth. Rinse baby’s mouth with clear water immediately after any liquid medication is given. Check for early signs of cavities by lifting up baby's top lip. White, chalky teeth or brown or black stained teeth could mean there is a problem. Have your child seen by a dental professional as soon as you can. Gradually introduce foods that require chewing. Chewing helps keep teeth strong and healthy. Begin regular dental visits by age one if possible.
