For my Final Major Project, I experimented with different ways of creating typography, from digitally creating type with my graphics tablet, to creating type from paper clips.
I have made my Final Major Project portfolio also available on ISSU.

This is a portfolio of an earlier third year university project, available on ISSU.

This is my Final Major Project piece, I created an anti self-help guide. The idea behind the book was to produce something ‘unexpected’, but also with the theme of ‘Ethical Design’. The book focuses on ‘negative thinking’, as opposed to positive, which is traditionally seen in self-help books. The book is about preparing us for the negatives in life, and unlike self-help guides, steers the readers away from forcing themselves into a state of positive thinking. http://issuu.com/sharding57/docs/1016134_samantha_hard-ing44_smallpdf
BOARD GAME DESIGN
As part of my Final Major Project, I also decided to design a board game. I wanted the game to relate to the anti self-help book.

FILM
I made a very short advertisement for the book as part of my Final Major Project.

RUINS
On one of my third year projects, I needed to choose six different themes, producing work based on a different theme each week. On one of my projects,
I chose the theme ‘Ruins’. Throughout the project on Ruins, I studied Urban Exploring, which is a term generally used to describe seeking
and photographing abandoned areas.
:
On my project entitled ‘Ruins’, I began putting a book together based on Urban Exploring.
I produced a few digital illustrations based on abandoned buildings and the concept of ‘ruins’.
I produced some digital sketches on a project theme titled ‘Failure’, and considered the body language and physical representation of Failure.
One of my projects focused on the theme of ‘Chance’. I created this poster with the idea of
weighing up ‘Choice vs Chance’ in life.
On the ‘Chance’ project, I researched the concepts of ‘The Butterfly Effect’ and ‘Chaos Theory’.
DANCEOn the theme titled ‘Dance’, I produced a short gif. file animation.Link: http://tinypic.com/r/72esec/5
On the following page are some watercolour paintings based on the ‘Dance’ theme.
:
On the ‘Dance’ theme I was inspired by musical posters, and produced my own.
YEAR TWO
GRAPHIC DESIGN ::
YEAR TWO
GRAPHIC DESIGN STREET PHOTOGRAPHY:One of my second year projects was a self-initiated research project. I chose the theme of ‘Capturing a Moment’, due to my interest in photography. On the ‘Capturing a Moment’ project, I reviewed the authenticity of the photograph, and it’s impact on memory. I looked at Street Photography later in the project, particularly the work of Martin Parr, and decided to create my own.
For one of my second year projects, I needed to create a brand based on a randomly selected student’s interests. The student chosen for me had an interest in Japanese Manga, photography, and also spoke of her excitement for Chineese New Year.
BRANDING:
On a second year project, I made a very short animation based on the similarities between animals and humans.

CHILDREN’S BOOKOn one of my second year projects, we looked at the theme of Fairy Tales. I produced a children’s book on the story of Snow White. The full book is available on ISSU, click on the book cover to be redirected.

CHILDREN’S BOOK
YEAR ONE GRAPHIC DESIGN::
On one of my first year projects, I needed to create a book cover design for an existing Penguin Classics title. I chose Sherlock Holmes ‘A Study in Scarlet’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
BOOK COVER DESIGN :
On one of my first year projects I needed to create a short graphic novel to represent the first few pages of a novel. The novel described the transition of night to day in a city.
GRAPHIC NOVEL:
This was for another part of a first year project, which involved visualizing pages from a book. I produced a short gif. file animation. This was my first time animating, and I found it to be a lengthy but enjoyable process. The animation is available via
a hyperlink in the image above, or through the link here: http://tinypic.com/r/14mb1q9/5
