Before becoming Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, he worked as Executive Director (In Charge) at Panipat Refinery for 3+ years and was responsible for all functions of Refinery as well as Naphtha Cracker and downstream polymer units.

In a carrier spanning over 37+ years, he has handled a variety of key assignments in Refinery Operations, Projects Formulation and Technical Services including commissioning of at least 15 Process Units, Naphtha Cracker Complex with Polymer Units as well as Offsite facilities.

Mr Jasubhai is the Vice Chairman & Chief Executive, Jasubhai Group & ChemTECH Foundation, which includes Jasubhai Engineering and Jasubhai Media. He is the Founder CEO of Jasubhai Digital Media, which was an absolutely pioneering IT Media company with brands like Digit, Chip, Skoar and ZDNet, one of the first online IT portals in India. Prior to founding Jasubhai Digital Media, he held the position of Executive Director with Fischer Rosemount, now Emerson Process Management Systems and worked for the corporate office in St Louis.

Mr Jasubhai holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton Business School, Pennsylvania.

Keynote address – Dr. Laxmi Narasimhan, General Manager, Shell Technologies

Keynote address – Mr. K. Nandakumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Chemtrols Ltd

Dr. Narasimhan has done his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Ghent, Belgium and is a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry. Currently, he serves as the General Manager, Centre for Novel Catalytic Materials, Shell Technology Centre at Bangalore. As a technology leader with 26 years of Refining & Petrochemicals Technology expertise primarily in the area of Hydro processing, Dr. Narasimhan is well versed in the fields of catalysis in Refining & Petrochemicals , Heavy Oil upgradation, Biomass to Hydrocarbon process development & commercialization.

Dr. Narasimhan has led more than 10 business improvement programmes in Refining, and developed and commercialized 2 new technologies. He is also the recipient of Indian Chemicals Manufacturing Award for development of indigenous technology and commercialization for production of food grade hexane.

Mr. Govindarajan is a Chemical Engineer from the premier Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has nearly 40 years of experience in the Oil industry in various functions. He worked for Indian Oil Corporation Ltd for over 34 years in its various refineries and the Business Development areas. In the refineries, he has worked in operations, Technical Services as well as planning functions. Since 2001, he has been working in the Business Development function of IOCL and worked extensively in developing the Petrochemicals business of IOCL. Under his leadership large scale Petrochemical projects were formulated, which include the Naphtha Cracker and downstream Polymers complex at Panipat, Petrochemicals project under the ongoing Paradip Refinery project, and various other projects like SBR/PBR, Acrylic Acid/Acrylates etc. He was also responsible for marketing of the LAB, PX, PTA and setting in place the structure of Polymers Marketing.

Since July 2008, he is leading the project development team of Essar Oil in formulating the Refinery Expansion and the Petrochemical projects.

A graduate in Chemical Engineering with specialization in petroleum refining from University of Kerala, Mr Nandakumar worked in Cochin Refineries and FACT (Fertilizers & Chemicals Travancore Ltd) before embarking on his entrepreneurial venture – Chemtrols. Mr Nandakumar is the Founder and Managing Director of the Chemtrols Group. In his highly successful career spanning over four decades, he has worked in functions as diverse as refinery operations, process engineering, sales and marketing, project management, strategic planning, business development, finance and corporate management.

He has travelled extensively across many countries, executed many overseas collaboration projects and implemented them in India in Process Automation, Environment Protection & Control, Electricity Generation and distribution in Chemical and Hydrocarbon Process Industries and in Power Sector enabling India earn Great savings in Foreign exchange, enhancing technical and Managerial competency of Indian Engineers and providing skilful overseas employment opportunities for Indian youth.

Session Chairman – Mr. S. C. Mehta, Executive Director– Project Process, HPCL

Session Co-Chairman: Mr Peder Claesson, Product Manager, Coil EMEA, Outokumpu Stainless AB

Mr. Mehta graduated in Chemical Engineering from BITS, Pilani in the year 1977. He joined Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd in 1981 and has an experience of over 30 years in the Oil Sector. He worked with various departments such as Operations, Technical, Corporate Planning and International Trade. He has been one of the initial team members responsible for development and strategy planning for International Trade and Supplies of crude oil for the HPCL Refineries. He has also worked as General Manager - Operations and General Manager – Technical, Mumbai Refinery. Mr. Mehta has also held the position of Executive Director heading the Mumbai Refinery of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation during which major revamps and major projects were implemented. Currently, he is holding the position of Executive Director in Corporate Office of HPCL and is involved in selection of technology for its refineries major projects.

Mr. Claesson is a Master of Science in Engineering Mechanics with speciality in Solid Mechanics from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Currently, he serves as the Product Manager, Coil EMEA, Outokumpu Stainless AB, Avesta, Sweden and is responsible for business and product development and implementation of Avesta commercial strategy all the way from the production lines and process development to the global network of Avesta dedicated sales people and customers. Special focus on Duplex Stainless Steel grades, Oil and Gas segment and Storage Tanks.

Speaker – Mr. Bharat Goenka, Head-Technology Licensing India , Shell Technology

A Chemical Engineering graduate from Panjab University, Mr. Goenka has more than 20 Years of experience in erection, commissioning, manufacturing, maintenance & operations, quality control, projects sales & proposals and process licensing sales.

He is currently working with Shell GS as Head - Technology Licensing – India. He began his career in 1994 in Plant Operations and Maintenance. He played a key role in “Concept to Commissioning” of a Mega scale expansion Project.

He moved to an EPC company in 2005 in Sales and Business Development. He was involved in EPC activities in India, SEA and MENA region. The role had dual responsibility as Techno-commercial functions, which also included Project Cost development, Project Feasibility Studies etc.

Now for more than 4 years, he is involved in the Technology Licensing activities in India and Asia Pacific Region.

Speaker – Mr. S. S. Sunderajan, Executive Director, Mumbai Refinery, BPCL

Mr. Sunderajan has a degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur followed by a diploma in Business management. He joined Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in 1983 and has been worked his way up holding various positions in operations, projects and technical services functions in Mumbai Refinery. Presently he is working as Executive Director, Mumbai Refinery.

Mr. Sunderajan’s recent major challenge has been to put systems in place for maintenance, inspection, safety, security and all aspects of operations of Bharat Oman Refinery (BORL) at Bina in central India. He has with his leadership skills successfully tapped the full potential of a new hetrogenous team of people in BORL to commission the Refinery safely. He also has a rich experience in guiding engineers in troubleshooting of various process units, facilities planning and in the area of process & operational safety. He has won the Chairman’s award in the in-house IDEAS award scheme of BPCL in 2005.

Speaker – Mr. Frank Scheel, Business Development Manager, Jacobs Comprimo Sulfur Solutions, Netherlands

Mr. Scheel holds a degree in Chemical engineering and environmental engineering. After his studies, he Joined Jacobs Comprimo in 1995 and worked as an engineer in the Comprimo Sulfur Solutions department where he worked on numerous technology packages and detailed design jobs in the area of gas treating and sulfur technology. Also regular commissioning and start-up experiences were part of the day to day business during those years.

After about 8 years working as a specialist engineer, Mr. Scheel became the Department Manager for the Comprimo Sulfur Solutions group in Leiden, the Netherlands. After 6 years of leading the engineering efforts of the Comprimo group internationally in 2009, Frank moved to a new role in the Comprimo organization and he currently is Global Business Development Manager for Comprimo Sulfur Solutions.

Mr. Scheel is a frequent speaker on conferences around the world and has published many articles on gas treating and sulfur technology together with his Comprimo Sulfur Solutions colleagues.

Speaker – Mr. Anindya Chatterjee, Senior Divisional Director- GPTS -BI & Big Data Analytics Products, Rolta India Ltd

Mr. Duverne holds an Engineering degree in Process Engineering from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Industries Chimiques de Nancy and an MSc in Refining Technology from the IFP School. He currently serves as Country Sales Manager - Process Licensing, Axens India Pvt Ltd and is responsible of Axens’ Licensing Business for all customers located in India.

Mr. Duverne joined Axens in 2009 as Process Engineer, participating at Process Book elaboration for continuous catalytic reformer and aromatics production processes. He then joined the Technology Department in 2012 and has been involved in the field of upgrading of light olefins from FCC, which includes various technologies such as heterogeneous oligomerization, selective hydrogenation and purification processes.

A Mechanical Engineer by profession, Mr. Chatterjee has rich experience of 23 years in operation and maintenance in hydrocarbon industry. He has addressed many conferences and has niche skill in implementing Operational & Reliability Excellence in hydrocarbon industry. He is currently working as Divisional Director in Rolta India Ltd and is responsible for developing a next generation technology product for bringing strategic and tactical alliance across the business functions.

Before joining Rolta he was involved with Refining and Petrochemicals projects in coveted companies like SABIC (Saudi Arabia), Reliance (India) and Nalco (India) . He is a certified Reliability professional from Government of India.

A graduate in Industrial Electronics engineering from Pune University, Mr. Nair has been in Process Analytical field for more than two decades.

Mr. Nair started his career as a Service Engineer at Chemtrols, and then moved into Engineering & Design followed by Production and System Integration. He is now working as Marketing Head (Analytics Business unit) in Chemtrols and is responsible for strategic planning for project positioning, interactions with foreign principals, and support to global group.

With an all round experience on process analyzers from Moisture and Gas analyzers, Mass Spectrometer, Gas Chromatograph, Laser analyzers, Blending analyzers and Sulfur Recovery analyzers, Mr. Nair has worked with Process analyzers and Gas chromatographs with all possible technologies.

A graduate in Instrumentation Engineering, Mr. Surshe has more than 13 years of experience in the technical solutions & product sales, critical infrastructure management, process plant automation, display technologies, IP networks, etc.

Currntely, Mr. Surshe is handling the business of Industry & Government Division of Barco and is responsible for the visualization solutions for the Control Rooms as Regional Sales Manager. He has also been involved in pre-sales, solution designing and sales activities of various control room projects for Western India.

Mr Mukhopadhyay has been working over 15 years in the field of Advanced Process Controls & Optimization in Indian Oil. He joined IOC in 1982 and worked in three refineries namely Barauni, Gujarat and Haldia. He has worked in diverse fields and gained experience namely in Production, Environmental Management, Technical Services, Information System and of course in the field of APC & Optimization. He has implemented traditional as well as model based Multi-variable Advanced Control system in almost all IOC refineries and was involved in many APC scoping studies and post-implementation benefit studies.

He was sent to ENOC Refinery, Dubai as APC consultant by IOC to assist APC scoping study and rendering assistance in APC supplier selection. He has also conducted APC Audit in many refineries to identify gaps and suggest improvement measures. Presently he is working as General Manager (Technical) at IOC Refinery Headquarter, Delhi and his job includes overall Planning & Coordination, monitoring and trouble-shooting of APC in all eight IOC refineries.

Speaker – Mr Akilur Rahman, Head of Corporate Research Center, ABB India Ltd.

Mr Rahman is currently working in the capacity of Head, ABB Global Corporate Research Center at Bangalore and has more than 25 years of experience in R&D, Technology Management, Engineering, Business and Product Development in ABB. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, Mr. Rahman has a wide knowledge of power and automation technology applications in utilities and industries. In a career spanning more than 25 years, Mr. Rahman

Mr Rahman has worked in India, Germany and Switzerland in various international and global roles and was responsible for setting up and establishing global software product development and integration in India for power and process automation products and systems.

In his current role, Mr Rahman is heading global initiative of Engineering Improvement and Cyber security in Process Automation division of ABB.

With more than 23 years of experience in process control & automation business, Mr. Desai has many areas of expertise include various aspects of automation business covering field services, application support, technical training, product management & business development.

Mr Desai is currently associated with Endress+Hauser India in Mumbai as and is handling the key responsibility for promotion of Products, Digital Technology & E+H solutions in India.

Mr Bhide works with Emerson Process Management India as Director - Technology & Solutions. He has done his graduation in Electrical Engineering from College of Engineering, Pune and has more than 25 years of Industry experience in both India and abroad.

He was involved in launching of cutting-edge technologies in process control instrumentation in India such as Foundation Fieldbus, Safety Instrumented Systems based on IEC62591 and more recently wireless. He is also Vice Chairman of Foundation Fieldbus Council India which is vendor neutral organization for the promotion of Foundation Fieldbus technology.

Dr. Chakrabarti has over 40 technical publications in journals, seminars and conferences and has delivered a large number of invited lectures at various events and organizations.

A graduate in Electronics Engineering and MBA, Mr Vyas has over 22 years of industry experience. Currently, he serves as SBU Head India at Forbes Marshall Pvt Ltd and is responsible for managing the marketing & sales Team, manufacturing team and customer support and for profitability of the SBU.

Mr Ammanur leads a Team of Materials & Corrosion discipline Engineers in Shell Projects & Technology based out of the Technology Centre in Bangalore. He comes with over 20 years of relevant work experience in the oil & gas industry of which 14 years have been with Engineers India Limited and over 8 years with Shell. His work responsibilities typically include providing advise on material selection design including refractories, corrosion management and control and on site troubleshooting for shell operating units, joint ventures and third party customers. Over the years, he has developed a keen interest in the subject of corrosion under insulation and been active in the discussions to manage this across various operating entities.

4SessionSpeaker – Mr Pankaj Kumar Sharma, Software & Services Leader, GE Oil & Gas

Mr Sharma is now serves as Software & Services Leader for GE – Measurement & Control and is responsible for promoting GE’s ‘Industrial Internet’ solutions. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from M S University of Vadodara, he began his career with IPCL-Dahej (now Reliance group of companies) in maintenance and condition monitoring of rotating/reciprocating machines. Since 2003, he is working with GE and led Machinery Diagnostics Services of Bently Nevada for India region.

A graduate in Instrumentation Engineering from Madras Institute of technology, Mr Paramsivam started his professional career at Tata Consulting Engineers, Bangalore for a short while, worked on power plant engineering.

From Trainee to Chief Manager, Head of instrumentation maintenance at BPCL refinery, Mr Paramsivam has been involved in various projects focusing on reliability on instrumentation in refinery. An avid player in analytical instrumentation engineering, Mr Paramsivam has taken interest, participation and made solutions to achieve the best in adopting new technologies and implementing in the refining sector.

Mr Pandit has done his Bachelor degree in Science from Mumbai University and Engineering in Instrumentation from College of Engineering, Pune.

With more than 32 years of experience in the field of Process control & Instrumentation in domestic and international industries, Mr Pandit is presently working with Honeywell as Regional Head and is involved in sales and marketing, as Vertical Manager for Refining, Oil & Gas, Fertilizers; Leading Global Mega Projects pursuits; EPC Leader and Regional Manager.

He started his career as a Trainee Engineer from Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers for projects and also worked with DataPro Electronics for sales of Leeds & Northrup DCS and Allen Bradley System House. He later joined Honeywell as Assistant Sales Manager in Mumbai and worked in Honeywell Middle East.

A graduate in Electrical Engineering from VNIT Nagpur, Mr Dani has more than 30 Years of experience in Hydrocarbon Industry related Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical systems for Domestic as well as International locations in GCC countries. Currently, Mr. Dani is representing Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering Mid & Down stream Turnkey Projects group as General Manager & Head of Electrical & Instrumentation Project Execution and is Leading a team of around 50-60 Senior Managers, Engineers & staff in various activities such as proposal engineering & estimation, detailed engineering management, project procurement co-ordination, client interaction, site construction & commissioning services. He has also been involved in Execution of E&I works for Projects in other countries such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

Mr Dani is a Visiting Faculty at UPES Dehradun for delivering lectures on Instrumentation & Control to students.

Mr Karuppasamy has obtained his BE degree in Electronics and Tele-communication from Government Engg. College, Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu and also a Management Degree course in Administration from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management studies from Mumbai University. He has also completed his LLB degree from Mumbai University and a Diploma course in Computer Management.

He has been working with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited since 1985 and has a rich experience of more than 29 years in Refinery Instrumentation. He has worked in various functions viz. Construction, Engineering design, In-house projects, Maintenance, Major projects with Consultants like EIL, UHDE, PDIL, etc. He was involved in the commissioning of BPCL owned Numaligarh Refinery in Assam and also many modernization projects in Mumbai refinery. He has worked in the instrumentation areas of plant maintenance, maintenance of analyzers, Instrument shop, Oil movement and Storage, Product dispatches, LPG etc.

Currently, he is working with Pipe lines group of BPCL, which handles mainly the MMBPL (Mumbai Manmad Bijwasan Pipe Line) from Mumbai to Delhi, Bina to Kota, Mumbai to Mumbai airport ATF line etc.

5SessionSpeaker – Mr S P Mallick, Executive Director, Chemtrols Industries Ltd

Mr Mallick is a Bachelor of Science in Physics and has done Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation & Electronics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He started his carrier from BARC but subsequently spent about 25 years in various fields of process instrumentation like design, engineering, erection, commissioning & maintenance in IOCL refineries.

Mr Mallick also worked in KNPC, Kuwait refineries on deputation from IOCL and in Emerson Process Management for more than 3 years in marketing. Currently, since last five and half years, he is working in Chemtrols as Executive Director in various fields like Project management, R&D and Manufacturing.
