“As… others have made abundantly clear, the hyperbolic imagery of the NT (moon turning to blood, stars falling from the sky, et.) is political language, signaling the fall of powerful political luminaries, etc., … Jesus didn’t come just to evacuate us from earth to a future heaven but to show us how to live and make this world more and more beautiful by following Jesus’ example which would eventually lead to God’s ‘kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven’ as Jesus taught us to pray.’”

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of Him, saying, “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”7 And He said unto them, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”


9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;11 Which also said, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”


The Apocalypse, however, constitutes the sine qua non of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The words literally mean “without which not.”

Merriam-Webster: sine qua non means something that is absolutely indispensable. It is essential.

Not just empowerment—not enlightenment—it is “turning the tables” on the world system.

It is a “reversal of fortune…” It is the context of the Gospel.


And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake…

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you… for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven:


We live between two ages: “the already—not yet”

Adopt new values and forsake the old ones…

We are to model that Kingdom today, even though our lifestylewill not be fully in fashion until the Kingdom comes.

How long before the Lord comes? An existential question…

“Our life is but a breath—our existence hangs by a thin thread.”


And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

And he said unto them, “Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:”

And he said, “So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;”

And he said, “Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?”


Liberal Theology—”The Historical Jesus” [Concluded w/ Albert Schweitzer? NO]

Who was Jesus? What did he teach?

The Jesus Seminar: The Jesus Seminar attempts to elevate public knowledge of Christianity through its conferences, press releases, books, webpage, etc. The goal is: "to bring the quest of the historical Jesus of Nazareth to the center of a global forum."

The Latter Rain Movement (Revival) of the 1940s and 1950s, aka KINGDOM NOW, proposing SEVEN MOUNTAINS MANDATE

Originally a charismatic offshoot… post-millennialism… preterist.

More optimistic than the Dispensationalism preceding it.

Establish an earthly kingdom in ‘His name’ – a Christian Jihad?

“It substitutes the gospel of the kingdom for the gospel of salvation… it is a kingdom of God (that is) literal and physical… to be established in the present age.” (p. 186) Similar to NEW AGE UTOPIANISM.


“This is not just the same old message with new methods.We’re rediscovering Christianity as an Eastern religion, as a way of life. Legal metaphors for faith don’t deliver a way of life. We grew up in churches where people knew the nine verses why we don’t speak in tongues, but had never experienced the overwhelming presence of God.”

If the Apostles visited a megachurch, wonder what the message has to do with the faith for which they died.

Is Jesus’ teaching honored? Can the rich enter into the Kingdom? “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle”

Once being fat was the measure of blessing… now it is a fat wallet.

Wealth will be consumed in the fire of the last days!

“I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!”


18 For many live, about whom I have often told you, and now, with tears, I tell you that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ.19 Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven—and we also eagerly await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform these humble bodies of ours into the likeness of his glorious body by means of that power by which he is able to subject all things to himself.
