In ANTICIPATION OF CHRISTMAS
The joyous holidays of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ are again upon us. We extend our sincere gratitude to all
those who participated and supported us in our church endeavors and work glorifying God and serving His people.
Nativity (Christmas) is a time of sharing gifts of God. Our St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church turns to all of its devout
faithful for contribution to help us continue God’s work and remain on His righteous path keeping His Commandments.
Our church congregation is solely supported by donations from the faithful and especially during this holy season. That is
why we ask you to remember your Church and be generous in heart and spirit with your special Christmas gift (an envelope
will be enclosed in the January-February-March Bulletin, which can assist you with your Christmas donations).
May the Merciful Lord fill you with the Holy Spirit that you might, with Peace in your soul spread peace and unity among
men; with love in your hearts that you might show love towards your neighbors; that you might bring others to Him by your
example of the true Christian life.
Let your gift be accompanied by your presence at worship in Church, so that you may receive from Him the gift of grace
that Christ’s Nativity brings.

CHRISTMAS GREETING OF HIS GRACE BISHOP LONGIN
“From a Virgin didst Thou come, not as an ambassador, nor as an angel, but the
very Lord Himself incarnate, and didst save me, the whole man. Wherefore, I cry
to Thee: Glory to Thy power, O Lord!”
Christ is Born! Truly He is Born!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The joy of our Lord’s Nativity never ceases to bring us a feeling of love and
peace. Truly, as during the actual event of our Lord’s birth, the angels sing at the
celebration of the coming of Christ to the earth, which He did in order to save man
from sin, conquer death and grant eternal life. Could there be greater joy, dear
brothers and sisters? Our Lord comes in humility, taking on flesh and becoming
Man, “not as an ambassador, nor angel, but the very Lord Himself
incarnate.” Glory to Him who has shown us this path of humility by His power!
As we celebrate this glorious feast, we also thank God for the upcoming
celebration of 800 years of Autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Our
Father and Enlightener St. Sava brought to fruition the independence of our Church
in the fulness of time, with the blessing of God and with the conciliarity of the
entire Orthodox Christian Church, just as the coming of the Savior occurred at the
appointed time, being neither forced nor unnatural. We will celebrate this
anniversary this year, and we ask of all our faithful people to pray to the Lord our
God to keep our unity strong and to participate in this unique anniversary in the life
of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
May the newly born Christ-Child grant us peace and love as we celebrate His
Nativity and enter into the new jubilee year for our Church and Nation, granting us
everlasting faith, hope and love.
Christ is Born! Happy New Year 2019!
With the blessing of God,
+L O N G I N
Bishop of New Gracanica and Midwestern America

Those preparing for marriage and those recently married are especially encouraged to come and hear many wise words. SHUT-INS: Please visit or call On the second day of Christmas, Tuesday, January 8th, our Priest will be visiting those who were not able to come to church on Christmas. Please call him if you would like him to visit. CHOIR SPONSORS Please let us know if you are willing to donate $30 (or whatever you can afford) to help cover most of the annual expenses. Donations should be given to the church office and will be published in future bulletins, unless you specify otherwise. God bless you and thank you for your support! UNIQUE QUESTION - CONSIDER
• We regularly pay our car and health insurance, just in case; in case we may need it. These insurance companies don’t love us and sincerely care for us.
• Church, however, is always there for us – in gladness and in sadness – do we contribute to church regularly?
• If not, this is a reminder. It’s never too late to start.
• If so, let us keep it up. Thank you.
• We can do so much more when we have the financial means – Thank you.
• Regardless of your answer – the Church will always be there for you – always.
Parish priest report at the annual meeting 2018
*** Memory eternal to all those who have transferred from this life unto life everlasting, this
past year.
Dear and good people of God,
Thanks be to God and all the angels and saints, and obviously all of you, we have had another
blessed year of the Lord.
Also, my greatest fear all these years of the past has gone away, for now. And my greatest fear
was and to a degree will always continue to be, that we would forget God when we are not
blessed as we have been use to being blessed. Preparation for and the day of the Indy Serb Fest
this year proved me wrong, and I was finally relieved. Not once did one of our faithful complain
or even doubt the plan of God during the worst possible weather one could have for the festival.
My report will be unusually short this year because of the discussion we need to have in regard
to the property layout and future plans of building a Byzantine style church.
I do have to say something very important as a conclusion. As you have witnessed, our church is
full every Sunday. Recently someone asked me why. After thinking about it for some time and
sharing with other clergy and the faithful, it became obvious that the reason people are coming
more to church is because they are tired of the world we live in and feel the need for relief and
gathering of strength. People coming to church more, and the church being full is great to hear,
but this also is an opportunity and responsibility for us who are more involved in church life.
May God continue to bless us so that we can bless others and give us strength to always do that
which is Orthodox Christian.
I love all of you very much and give thanks to God daily for being part of this church family.
In Christ,
Dragan Petrovic - priest
