SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 9, 2018 Dear Parishioners,

Thanks to all who helped to support our annual Giving Tree. This year, we supported many charitable organi-za ons in our St. Louis area who provide for the poor, including, the Wellston Center, Sts. Peter and Paul min-istries which offer assistance to homeless men, the Col-lege Church in their care for the homeless, St. Martha’s Hall who provide shelter for abused women and their children, the food pantry at our sister parish, St. Wen-ceslaus, and our own St. Vincent De Paul Society who offer food, rent, u li es and transporta on to people who are in special need. If you took an ornament from the tree, please return your unwrapped gi to the tree in the ves bule of our church.

Thanks to all who support our Giving Tree pro-gram. Your goodness certainly brightens the holidays for many children and families in need! Special thanks to Amy Schulte and Michelle MacDonald for their lead-ership with this wonderful program that assists so many charitable organiza ons.

On another note, we regularly bap ze infants and wel-come them to our parish. Receiving bap sm in our in-fancy is the way that most of us came into the Church. But each year, here and throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis, hundreds of adults are bap zed and received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. This past Sunday at our 12 noon Mass, we celebrated what is called the Rite of Acceptance for several adults. This is the Church's formal recogni on of the inten on of these adults to proceed toward Easter Sacraments. For the past several months, they have been mee ng, learning and talking about what it means to be a Catholic, and this brief rite moves them further along the path to be-ing a full-fledged member of the Catholic faith. One or several of them might s ll change their mind, but usu-ally this step signals to them and to us that we now have a new group of men and women who wish to join

us in our faith. Many of these individuals will be looking to us to see what faith in ac on looks like. Please warmly welcome them as you meet them, and let them know that you and your family can be available to them if they should need your assistance in any way.

Speaking of being welcoming, one of the most consistent comments that I receive from guests who visit Holy Infant is how warmly welcomed they feel by members of our community. As we prepare for the celebra on of Christmas, please go the extra mile in extending a warm word of welcome to any of our guests and visi-tors. We want everyone to feel very warmly welcomed into our Holy Infant parish family!

God’s blessings to you and your family!

“And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of percep on, to dis-cern what is of value…” PHILIPPIANS 1:9-10

Gli ery holiday ads can blind us to our stewardship values and distort our needs and wants. It is important that during this season of endless buying we remember that each of us also has the need to give back to God and to those that are in need.
