NIAGARA FALLS

Niagara Falls is actually three different waterfalls. Horseshoe Falls is the largest waterfall of the three. The most popular way to experience the waterfalls is to walk along the riverside. Access to these trails is free, and there is even a walkway that will take you to Goat Island, the island that sits between the Canadian and the US falls. If you want a more adventurous experience you should consider taking a helicopter tour of the falls.

FINGER LAKES

The Finger Lakes are a series of lakes that resemble fingers when looked at from above or on a map. Today the Finger Lakes region is known for its wineries, and visiting them is one of the region’s most popular activities. Watkins Glen State Park is another popular attraction in the area. The state park is the perfect spot for a camping trip.

LAKE PLACID

Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics twice in the twentiethcentury. Whiteface Mountain is the most popular skiing location in the area. The town even features a bobsled run—something not commonly found across the United States. Rock climbing is also a popular attraction in the area due to the proximity of the Adirondack Mountains.

THOUSAND ISLANDS

On the State Lawrence River, you will find over 1,800 islands. Some of the best-known islands include Wolfe Island, Deer Island, and Carleton Island. Carleton Island is home to Fort Haldimand, a fort built by the British during the Revolutionary War. There are at least 30 private homes on the island, but the only way to access the island is by private boat. If you want to experience the Thousand Islands, there are many companies that offer boat tours.
