RYAN BOUMA
Ryan is a licensed Landscape Architect and Urban Designer with 15 years of professional experience. Based in the Washington DC area for a majority of his career, Ryan held the role of Senior Associate at EDAW and was part of the firm’s transition into AECOM. His practice is multi-scalar, leading detailed public realm design efforts from concept through construction as well as urban redevelopment planning initiatives and vision studies in cities across the globe. Ryan’s efforts to enhance the human interface with ecological infrastructure and mobility systems is evident throughout his work on the Monumental Core Framework Plan for central Washington DC, the conceptual public realm visions for the Burnham Place air-rights development adjoining Washington’s Union Station, the innovative streetscapes of The Yards redevelopment and the design of the High Tech District Waterfront Park in Ningbo, China.
Currently a Masters of Design Studies Candidate at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Ryan is part of the Urbanism, Landscape and Ecology concentration with particular interests in landscape energy, integration of renewable energy systems into our communities and maximum-power feedbacks. Through an investigation of competing theories and practice approaches, Ryan’s research looks to strengthen design agency within the broader energy discourse and to better inform, manipulate and augment energy flows at the scale of the site, settlement and system.
This portfolio includes select projects where Ryan acted in a significant leadership role. The following landscape architectural and urban design work was completed while Ryan was landscape architect at EDAW|AECOM unless otherwise noted.
