Located in the South of France, Riviera Sea School run regular Powerboat courses throughout the year from our base in Golfe-Juan, conveniently situated on the attractive Cote d’Azur right in between the famous yachting hub of Antibes and the beautiful bay of Cannes.

PRE COURSE REQUIREMENTSParticipants embarking on this Advanced Powerboat course should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat with a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Dayskipper shorebased. Participants should also have completed a First Aid certificate, and hold their VHF operators license.

Course Information

The Powerboat Advanced course is the final step in the RYA National Powerboating Scheme and has been specifically designed for experienced powerboaters, pleasure and professional aiming to reach that next level in powerboating. This course is ideal for those wishing to undertake more adventurous passages or for professional yacht crew required to drive large tenders or chase boats. Participation in this course will provide you with extensive knowledge and skills in boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation during the day and at night.

Included in your Powerboat Advanced course fee are administration and certification costs along with all of your course materials including fuel and wet weather gear (often extras at other schools).

Our Powerboat Advanced courses can be carried out at anytime throughout the year and are scheduled according to demand. Depending on your situation this course can be conducted at our base in Golfe-Juan or as Own Boat Tuition onboard your boat or yacht tender anywhere in the world.

Commercially Endorsing your Powerboat Certificate

Upon successful completion of this course you will be awarded with your Powerboat Advanced course completion certificate. It is important to note however that should you wish to commercially endorse your certificate you will be subject to a further one day exam in order to achieve the Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence. To be eligible for this exam you will be required to have obtained the following sea time: 20 days at sea, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles and 12 night hours. If you are unsure about your sea time please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your eligibility for this exam.

Commercial vessels under 24m are surveyed and certified for different categories of use. A commercially endorsed Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence falls under category 3 which will permit you to carry paying customers up to 20 miles from a safe haven.There will be an application fee of 30GBP payable to the RYA to obtain your commercial endorsement.

The ICC and your Advanced Powerboat Certificate

The International Certificate of competence (ICC) has been divided up into different categories, upon successful complete of your Advanced Powerboat certificate you will be able to apply for your ICC for power driven vessels up to 10m.
