Dr. David C. Glahn, an investigator at the IOL’s Olin Neuro-psychiatric Research Center, is this year’s recipient of the Theodore Reich Prize from the International Society for Psychiatric Genetics.

Dr. Glahn, who has published more than 100 peer-re-viewed scientific articles, received the award for his work developing and applying neurocognitive and neuroimag-ing endophenotypes for psychotic and affective disorders. Endophenotypes are traits associated with an illness that can be used to help identify and characterize risk genes for that illness.

Staff members can take advantage of two free workshops in Micro-soft Excel on Aug. 18. They will be taught by Gary Carra Jr. of Capital Community College, and meet in the ERC in the third floor Library.

“Excel I - Introduction to Excel,” will be offered from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This course begins with the ba-sics but quickly adds important-to-know building blocks. Spreadsheet design and proper formula creation are discussed with an emphasis on shortcuts and best practices.

“Excel II - Advanced Formulas” will be offered from 1-4 p.m. This course deals with analyzing data using Pivot Tables with an empha-sis on presenting data. Many best practices are shown and demon-strated throughout the session.

The workshops are offered by the Learning and Organizational De-velopment Department, and are open to all staff. Attendance is lim-ited to 18 per class. Please self reg-ister via the Healthstream icon on the intranet. For more information, contact Maria Furlow at 8670-972-3985 or [email protected].
