TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY!
Thank you to the 50 parents who have already
completed the Tell Them from Me Survey. A
reminder that this survey is your chance to give
feedback to the school and how we can improve
schooling for the children of Rutherford.
Please follow the link below to complete the survey.
All participants remain anonymous. Parents who take the survey
may like to fill in the response slip in this newsletter to go into the
draw to win a $200 IGA gift voucher. Please return the response
slip to the office. The draw will take place at the end of the term.
Thank you for your time!
Anyone who does not have access to a computer can see Mrs
Gandhi (CLO), who will have school computers set up at the front
entrance before and after school each day this week. Each parent
who completes the survey with Mrs Gandhi will receive a little treat!
The survey can be found at:
https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/9pr2p
MRS DOW TO RECEIVE UNIVERSITY PRIZES
Congratulations to Mrs Sharon Dow,
class teacher of 5S, who will receive
the Peter Garland Memorial Prize and
the University of Newcastle Callaghan
Prize for Bachelor of Teaching
(Pr imary) /Bachelor of Arts in
recognition of her performance during
the 2015 academic year at the
University of Newcastle.
Mrs Dow officially graduates in
October, and has been selected to
receive these prizes as a result of her hard work and dedication in
her pre-service training.
We are all very proud of you!
CONSTABLE STEELE TO TALK ON CYBER SAFETY
Constable Michael Steele will talk to all Stage 3 students this
Thursday, as part of raising awareness of cyber-bullying and crime.
It is important for all our students to be aware of the potential dangers
when online and how to avoid problems.
We thank Constable Steele for visiting the school and giving up his
time to talk to the students.
OC CLASS PLACES IN DEMAND
The Opportunity Class (OC) continues to draw strong interest from
around the district. We have a large number of students applying for
a position in the class for Year 5 in 2017. Applications had to be
submitted in Term 2 this year.
There are just 15 places available for students each year, and the
competition to gain a place is very high. Students should receive
notification whether they will be offered a place over the next few
weeks. Students who do not gain a place may be placed on a
waiting list. Some students will not be offered a place due to the high
number of applications this year.
NEW DEMOUNTABLE
A new demountable building will be sited at the rear of the
kindergarten rooms over the coming weeks, as we prepare for
additional classes. It is anticipated that this will have minimal impact
upon school routines.
CAPITAL WORK PLANNING
Last week the Project Reference Group (PRG) met with builders,
architects and Department of Education officials to start preliminary
talks about potential new building work. It will be important for the
school community to have their say on how the buildings will be
designed and located. Feedback from these meetings will be
provided at the P&C meetings and regularly in the newsletter.
Watch this space as we grow!
THANK YOU
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff and the P&C for
their support in the passing of my father last week. Remember to tell
your loved ones how important they are to you!

VISUAL ARTS
Visual Arts is an important part of learning at
Rutherford Public School. It is part of the
Creative and Performing Arts syllabus used in
NSW. Students learn about artists and art-
making processes, and they create wonderful works
themselves.
2D VISUAL ARTS
Alirah, Gemma, Levi and Eli from 2D stand in front of the class
display of visual arts. The students used charcoal to draw trees
and added painted leaves. The students were learning to use
different media and textures to create artworks.
1G VISUAL ARTS
Beautiful artworks fill 1G. In fact, their wet area is called the art
gallery.

...Year 6 Transition News…
GROWING TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE: EMOTIONAL
INTELLIGENCE!!
Adolescents with higher emotional intelligence:
Are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer
pressure
Have greater success making friends
Are more able to manage conflict with peers
Are more able to cope when upset or angry
Have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties
Have more stable and satisfying relationships as adults, and
Have greater career success.
Emotional intelligence may be a better predictor of academic
and career success than IQ!
ENRICHMENT CLASSES: finished last week, and over 60
students have participated in Science, Visual Arts, Technology,
Music and Film making. The experiences gained by going each
week to the high school and getting to meet with staff and other
students will strengthen their resilience and enhance their
emotional intelligence.
Thank you to Mrs O’Donnell for accompanying our students to
and from the high school.
STAGE 3 GALA SPORTS DAY: This Friday 16th September,
the LMG Gala Sport’s Day will be held at Maitland Park for our
Year 5 and Year 6 students. They will combine with other Year
5 and Year 6 students from our local schools, and play a variety
of sports. The students will travel to and from Maitland Park by
bus.
There are still a number of outstanding permission notes and
bus fares ($4).

HUNTER REGION CRICKET
Well done to Brayden Lucas who trialled for the
Hunter Region Cricket team, and has qualified
for the Possible vs Probables game. This
Thursday, he will play from 9:30am to 4:00pm
at Hinton Oval. If he is selected, he will play in
the State Cricket Carnival, which will be held in
Sydney in November.
Another high-achiever will trial for a position in
the girls Hunter Region team this Wednesday.
Ava Jankovic will be giving her all to gain a spot
in the Hunter team that will also tour in
November. Proving to be a terrific all-rounder,
Ava has represented our school at State
Swimming, Zone Athletics and Cross Country.
Good luck to both students!
STAGE 2 TENNIS
The Stage 2 Tennis program is proving to be a hit (no pun
intended)! Students are learning new skills and being exposed
to a fantastic sport. It will continue for the last two weeks of
term, with students being encouraged to bring hats and drink
bottles. Students can also bring their own racquets if they
want.
Enjoy!
K-2 BACKYARD LEAGUE PROGRAM
The K-2 Backyard League program was scheduled to start last
week but there was a hitch with traffic, so it will start this Friday,
and the last session will be the first Friday back. Have fun!
REG KELLY SHIELD
The school cricket team played against Thornton Public School
at Norm Chapman Oval last Thursday in the Reg Kelly Shield.
We lost the toss and were made to go into bat. In the 24 overs,
we made a competitive score of 6/87, with Chris Kokkinelis
scoring the team high of 28 not out. In the second innings we
got off to a great start and by the 12th over we had kept
Thornton to 2/24 with Finn Stockwell only one ball away from
achieving a hatrick. In the end, Thornton had chased down our
score with only one over to go.
The boys played great and represented the school to the best
of their ability. We will still play at least three more games in
this competition, and I wish the boys the best of luck.
UPCOMING DATES:.
15/9/2016 Adidas Fun Run, School Oval.
