Longlook program – Fourth year
Commonweatlh Government fundingGriffith University/QRME/Queensland Health/Private practice partnershipLongitudinal medical student placements
Longlook – what is it?Longitudinal placement (3rd & 4th Year), In a rural hospital and practice,Become part of the medical team, withLocal and central teaching (at the Griffith, Darling Downs Clinical Training Centre)
Principles of the program1. Context of learning in rural hospitals
and practices2. Curriculum is more continuous than
artificially compartmentalised3. Students who want to be there4. Resourced and supported5. Vertically integrated

Rural placements are able to provide the experience necessary to complete the curriculum, but not in a way that readily fits into the artificial terms of rotations. Patients just don’t come into rural hospitals and practices having selected their condition to suit the term of the students therein.
