HUME CITY COUNCIL RURAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PLAN Council actions in accordance with the Community Engagement Framework Community actions Local land management community groups and individuals should write to the State Government to advocate. Council will facilitate a series of forums to discuss key land management issues and collaborate with rural landowners in addressing the issues. Council will continue to organise and provide a variety of workshops, training and field days for weed and land management. Existing and new local land management groups to apply for Council’s Community Grants program. Rural landowners to engage in forum discussions and partner with Council in seeking solutions to key land management issues. Rural landowners to report issues to Council’s Customer Service department. Rural community to raise issues and concerns with Ward Councillors as necessary. Landowners can seek Council support and guidance in undertaking environmental protection projects on their land. Council will support and fund community led workshops, training and fields days through the Conserving our Rural Environment grant. Council will support local land management community groups to apply for Council’s Community Grants to assist in the formation of the groups. KEY ISSUES TIMEFRAME: Ongoing Weed Control & Land Management Landowner & Community Group Action Waste, Pollution & Soil Environment Protection Green Wedge & Planning Council Funding & Incentive Schemes Council will inform and encourage existing and new community groups to apply for Council’s annual Community Grants program. Council will provide meaningful education for hard waste collection and rubbish dumping in rural areas. Council will inform and regularly update the rural community about relevant planning issues and which authority is responsible. Councillors will be regularly briefed and updated on rural community issues by staff. Council will continue proactive compliance and enforcement with soil movement and dumping in rural areas. Council can investigate opportunities to enhance native vegetation on rural roadsides and consult with key stakeholders. Council will be proactive in seeking information from authorities about planning issues that are of concern to the rural community. Council will support revegetation and the creation of wildlife corridors in Hume through the Conserving our Rural Environment grant. Council will actively apply for funding to support and enhance existing incentive schemes offered to rural landowners. Council will advocate to the State Government for enforcement of priority weeds and keep the rural community informed. INFORM To provide the public with balanced and objective information to assist them in understanding the problem, alternatives, opportunities and/or solutions. CONSULT To obtain public feedback on analysis, alternatives and/or decisions. INVOLVE To work directly with the public throughout the process to ensure that public concerns and aspirations are consistently understood and considered. COLLABORATE To partner with the public in each aspect of the decision including the development of alternatives and the identification of the preferred solution.
