Grade 10 Science Fair a Big Success!

On Friday, December 16, 2016, the Grade 10 Masters Science students participated in their first science fair. Working throughout the semester, students designed and completed their experiments, each relating to a strand of study in the Grade 10 curriculum. The finished projects were a huge success and the participants were excited to share their results with their peers. Some highlights included projects on soil salinity and plant growth, the effects of climate change on agriculture, and new types of cancer treatment. Congratulations to all participants!

Arts @ Runnymede

New SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) @ RCI

Students from the SHSM program in Digital Media and Photography had the opportunity to attend the Creative Futures Expo and a professional Lighting workshop this semester tobroaden their experiences and to learn more about future careers in the Media/Digital Arts.

Shining for Grade 8 Students

The choir class and a small complement of guitar students presented an open rehearsal during the day for our grade 8 feeder schools on November 14th.The grade 8's were invited to come and hear some of the music the vocals class and guitar class rehearse. It was a unique opportunity to perform pieces a number of times during the rotation of grade 8's through the class.

Showcasing Music at the RCI Open Houses

Some of the students from the keyboarding and guitar classes gave their time to come out on the evening of November 17th for parents of grade 8 students researching which high school to go to for grade 9. Thanks goes out to Chase Comeau, Aisha Mohamed, Steven Pham, Tristan Mbugua, Tenzin Yeshi, Sulieman Sulieman and Yahya Mohamed for coming out to play that evening.

Kudos and thanks go to Steel Pan students Teianna H., Chante L., Tivonna S., Hector M., Jessica H-S.,Fatoumata S., Brittney S., Karina R. and Bjorn B. for staying after school on several occasions to perform songs for grade 8 parents and guests in November and December. The Steel Pan Ensemble looked marvelous while wearing the red RCI music jackets!

Remembrance Day

A big thank you to the band students and special guest musicians: Julie Ha, Jimmy Huynh, Ethan Zhou, Richard Tieu and Travis Bennett for performing on Friday, November 11, 2016 during two Remembrance Day Assemblies. A special thank you to Ms. Lovell for organizing our Remembrance Day assemblies. Thank you to Cole McMullin for playing an excellent rendition of “Last Post and Reveille” on trumpet.

Winter Arts Night

Winter Arts Night was a blast! The program consisted of a pre-show Art Exhibit where many people gathered. The pre-show featured a marvelous Art Exhibition in the main lobby. Ms.Thompson, Ms. Lambert and students set up a truly professional gallery with paintings, creative photographic artwork, crafts and artwork for sale. Bravo to the Art students and their teachers!
