Becoming a Preschool director can be a rewarding position. As a director , you are the main and trusted source of communication between all facets of the program.

You would get to work with everyone involved such as the parents, children, staff, owner, licensing department and/or funding program. Anytime there is a problem, dispute or opportunity, the director must oversee it.

Best of Many Worlds

When you are a director, you get the best of many worlds. You get to work hands on with all the kids (not just either the babies or toddlers), spend time with parents and get to really know your staff. You get to move about the facility unlike anyone else. How fun!!

But How?

To become a director, you should look into the credentials for your state. They will usually include some type of

educational courses mixed with in-the-field experience.

You should also posses good communication leadership and people

skills.

Is It Worth It?

No one can deny the importance of finances. But, as a director you will earn a sufficient living. Here are some stats:

In May 2010, the median annual wages of preschool and childcare center directors in the top employing industries were as follows:-Elementary and secondary schools; state, local, and private $70,670 -Individual and family services $46,000 -Religious, grant making, civic, professional, and similar organizations $42,810 -Child day care services $39,200
